1 West-MEC Automotive Technology Automotive Technology I None This course is the first year of a two-year automotive technology program, offered to junior students through a partnership with West-MEC (Western Maricopa Education Center). The program teaches students automobile engine performance, brakes, steering and suspension and electrical components. Upon completion of the two-year program, students may take the NATEF ASE Certification Exam. This course meets 2.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday at Ironwood High School, 6051 West Sweetwater Avenue, Glendale, (59th Ave. & Sweetwater). 2 West-MEC Automotive Collision Industries Automotive Collision Industries I None 1.5 High School Credits This semester course is part of a one-year automotive collision repair program, offered to sophomore, junior and senior students through a partnership with West-MEC (Western Maricopa Education Center). This course teaches the basic principles and terminology of the auto body repair industry. This course includes hands-on repair of body damage including: metal work, trim and basic painting, estimating job costs, types of metals and plastic, industry safety components, structural analysis, suspension and drive trains, computer diagnostic systems, and welding used in collision repair. Upon completion of the one-year program, students may test for I-Car Industry Certification. This course meets 2.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday at Paradise Valley High School, 3950 East Bell Road, Phoenix, (40th Street and Bell). For more information, please visit: Automotive Collision Industries II Automotive Collision Industries I 1.5 High School Credits This semester course is part of a one-year automotive collision repair program, offered to sophomore, junior and senior students through a partnership with West-MEC (Western Maricopa Education Center). This course covers auto refinishing and minor bodywork. Students will learn advanced principles of auto body painting and refinishing including: surface preparation, spray gun operation, paint mixing, matching and applying, solving paint application problems, finish defect causes and cures, safety precautions. Students will use all types of automotive paints and undercoats; some custom design paintwork is taught. This course also teaches estimating costs, types of metals and plastics used for reconstruction, safety practices, advanced structural analysis, computer diagnostic systems, welding, as well as customer service and basic business practices. Upon completion of the one-year program, students may test for I-Car Industry Certification. The Automotive Collision Industries II course may be repeated for additional credit. This course meets 2.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday at Paradise Valley High School, 3950 East Bell Road, Phoenix, (40th Street and Bell). For more information, please visit:

3 West-MEC Cosmetology Cosmetology I 2 Years of High School English 10 High School Credits 6 High School Credits This course is the first year of a two-year cosmetology program, offered to junior and senior students through a partnership with West-MEC (Western Maricopa Education Center). The program teaches students techniques in hair, skin and nail care. Upon completion of the two-year program, students may test to receive a cosmetology license from the Arizona Board of Cosmetology. This course meets 4 hours per day, Monday through Friday and will include some Saturday classes in order to complete the training hours. This course, which begins July 26th 2010, will be held at the Cutting Edge Style Academy, 7565 West Peoria Avenue, Peoria, (75th Avenue & Peoria). 4 West-MEC Dental Assisting Dental Assisting I 3.5 High School Credits This course is a one-year program offered to senior students through a partnership with Rio Salado. The program provides students the fundamentals of Dental Assisting for performance in a dental office. This course teaches the basics of dental instrumentation, dental radiology, administration, bio-hazards, and the disease process of the human anatomy. Upon completion of the one-year program, students may test to receive a Certified Dental Assisting certification. This course meets 4 hours per day, Monday through Friday. 5 West-MEC Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Emergency Medical Technician Prerequisites: College Reading Placement Exam 2 High School Credits 12 Maricopa Community College Credits This fall semester emergency medical technician (EMT) course is offered to senior students through a partnership with West-MEC (Western Maricopa Education Center). The course teaches students basic emergency medical care, including basic life support and first response care. Upon completion of the course, students who are 18 years of age or older may take the National Registry Exam to receive EMT certification. This course meets 3 days per week for a total of 10 hours per week at one of the following locations: Glendale Community College Main, Glendale Community College North, and the SouthWest Skill Center at Estrella Mountain Community College. This course is an overview of the application and selection processes used by various fire departments and fire service organizations. Students will learn elements of fire science culture and its effect on personal growth and interpersonal relationships. This course teaches the history and evolution of fire department organization and the role of fire service in the community. The program teaches students the maintenance and repair of diesel engines, brakes, suspension and steering, electrical components and hydraulics. Upon completion of the two-year program, students may take the NATEF ASE Certification Exam. This course meets 2.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday and will include a summer work internship between junior and senior year. The course will be held at the Freightliner, Sterling and Western Star of Arizona facility, 9600 West Roosevelt Street, Tolleson (99th Avenue & Loop 101).
