Curriculum Manager Motor Vehicles Job Description Responsible To: Responsible For: Campus: Head of Department Curriculum Staff Southgate Campus Context The curriculum at Barnet and Southgate College is organised into Divisions and each is managed by a Head of Division. Curriculum Managers will report to a Head of Division and will be part of the wider College Leadership Team. Curriculum Managers will lead a team of teaching staff for a specified subject area and a range of programmes within this, appropriate to their area of curriculum management. Main Purpose of the Job To support the Head of Division with the development and management of a specified curriculum provision and Quality Assurance within the division Ensure a quality of learner experience Leadership & Management To develop an outstanding curriculum provision in the areas you are responsible for Contribute to the development and successful implementation of the College s operational curriculum and quality plans To take responsibility for the management of specific programmes, including the line management of course teams and effective curriculum co-ordination including convening and holding regular team meetings Deputise in the absence of the Head of Division To contribute to the College s Safeguarding policies and procedure. Learner Voice Co-ordinate the arrangements for the selection and admission of learners to programmes, in conjunction with Student Services To assist with the recruitment and guidance of students onto the correct courses, including the use of initial diagnostic assessment and agreements for additional learning support Oversee and regularly monitor the programme and conduct of learners on programmes in the Curriculum Area Work closely with relevant specialist teams within the College to ensure the proper safeguarding of learners Ensure that all learners on programmes receive the full range of support to which they are entitled, including induction, tutorial support, enrichment and additional learning support, in accordance with College policy and individual learner need
and ensure that effective arrangements are in place to refer at risk learners to the Achievement Unit To ensure that students are fully aware of their progress through clear, active and purposeful ILPs and academic tutoring based on target setting principles To ensure the effective discipline and management of students, undertaking student disciplinary in accordance with the College policy where required and keeping of records and referral to other agencies where necessary To ensure all learning agreements, registers and profiling documents are recorded and kept in accordance with College s requirements To ensure the provision of reports for parents/employers on a regular basis and organise parent/employer events to provide feedback on student progress Continuous Improvement & Performance Ensure appropriate quality assurance checks are conducted within the curriculum area in line with College audit policies and procedures Monitor and develop the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning, to ensure the best possible learner achievement To support the implementation of improvement strategies resulting from the annual employer satisfaction survey Provide initial curriculum related advice and guidance, and carry out interviewing, induction, assessment of learners as required To ensure completion of course reviews, using evaluation and learner voice information to inform improvement action plans which are monitored throughout the year To conduct termly Boards of Study to assess the effectiveness of the work in the division for which they are responsible, particularly in relation to the key performance indicators including internal and external verification of assessment Act as lead Internal Verifier within the programme area including liaison with relevant awarding bodies and External Verifiers To work with other managers to ensure a consistency of approach to the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of responsiveness, effectiveness and efficiency To provide regular progress reports, highlighting any areas of concern on all relevant aspects of the business and learner activity to the Assistant Director e.g. retention, achievement and framework success rates against targets, learner progress and learner/employer satisfaction surveys Curriculum Portfolio To develop new and innovative methods of delivery relevant to learner needs and increase the use of flexible and open, work based and distance learning Ensure that defined programmes operate within the requirements of curriculum assessment and examination regulations and in accordance with college policies Work collaboratively with other managers and staff in relation to planning, timetabling and staffing of joint programmes To ensure that course handbooks are available and up to date for all courses To ensure the availability of schemes of work and planning for teaching and learning are in place and are learner centred To ensure that ILT is increasingly used as a tool for learning in all programmes To ensure that assessment plans are consistent with College policies and that students have information about what standards and work are expected of them Ensure the maintenance of appropriate records Carry out all organisational and administrative work, preparation and marking associated with teaching responsibilities. To include, but not limited to, the
provision of lesson plans, schemes of work, assessment schedules and the completion of E-ILPs including any associated records Staff Lead and motivate a team of staff to achieve high standards of performance Line manage curriculum posts as allocated and implement relevant College policies relating to staff Manage change effectively and inspire colleagues to ensure effective team work with a common and clear purpose Contribute to the recruitment, selection and induction of staff To induct and support part-time hourly paid personnel and any casual or temporary staff so that they can carry out their duties effectively To assist in the preparation of staff and course timetables in liaison with Directors and Heads of Division and allocate individual timetables and monitor and report teaching hours, as required To ensure the quality of teaching, learning and assessment through the evaluation, mentoring and coaching of new and existing teachers. Undertake observations of teaching and tutoring staff as required To undertake staff development and training arising from this or from the needs of the Departments Manage performance, appraisal and development of staff within the curriculum area and set annual performance targets Communicate effectively at all levels Advise the Head of Division on the staffing implications of the specified programme portfolio and projected learner enrolment Finance & Resources Work in conjunction with the Head of Division to ensure the efficient and effective management of the equipment for programme delivery Recommend capital items to the Head of Division, for purchase, as appropriate Ensure that the budgetary targets agreed and set by the Head of Division are met and that provision is delivered within the agreed pay and non pay budget for the financial year Ensure the timetabling of programmes, staff and accommodation is implemented in accordance with College Policy Co-ordinate human resources effectively to ensure they are utilised efficiently Planning Plan, design and develop provision to ensure the achievement of targeted growth within the curriculum area set against targets provided Plan and manage physical and human resource effectively to ensure that they are utilised efficiently, deliver on time and within budget Marketing & Employer Engagement Assist in promotion, publicity, advertising and media relations for the College To liaise and strengthen links with industry/employers and the community to ensure student access to learning and recruitment Work to strengthen links with the business community and increase levels of employer engagement To coordinate staffing for open evenings, recruitment events and summer guidance and enrolment General & College Responsibilities
