Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon The Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon is an annual celebration of healthy living and active lifestyles held over the Victoria Day holiday weekend in Halifax, NS. For 2016, up to 13,000 walkers and runners, supported by 1400+ volunteers, will take to the streets of Halifax and Dartmouth. With the largest youth run in Canada and the largest marathon weekend east of Ottawa, Blue Nose features a total of six distance events and a wide range of associated events. A Distance For Everyone! Scotiabank Charity Challenge (SCC) Overview The Scotiabank Charity Challenge was created as a community-building component of all Scotiabank marathons. In addition to supporting the marathon s local economy, the Scotiabank Charity Challenge offers key fundraising opportunity for local nonprofits. In 2015, the Challenge raised over $8.1 million for over 530 Canadian local charities. From 2003 through 2015, the Challenge raised more than $46 million. Charities recruit fundraisers who register for a Blue Nose Marathon event and then raise funds using a secure online fundraising system. When charities register to become part of the Scotiabank Charity Challenge they benefit from: Being part of a major community event with no financial risk the focus is on fundraising, not logistics Many of the costs to fundraise are paid for by Scotiabank, so every dollar raised goes directly to the cause Charities and fundraisers receive access to a secure online fundraising platform FrontStream Fundraising Pro (formerly Artez Interactive) at no cost to them, allowing runners to fundraise automatically Page 3 of 13

5. Scotiabank Charity Challenge Cash Prizes Every dollar raised will help your charity come closer to winning one of nine cash prizes, totaling $24,750! Scotiabank will award prizing to the Official Charities that are the highest performers in the following categories: 1. Official Charity with the largest total dollars raised Rules: Includes all online and offline verified donations to Fundraising Runners, Fundraising Teams, and the Charity directly. 1st place $4,250 2nd place - $2,500 3rd place - $1,500 2. Official Charity with the largest number of Fundraising Runners Rules: Charities must have a minimum of 10 Fundraising Runners registered. Fundraising Runners can be registered in any combination of running events. Only donations made directly to the individual are used in the calculation. 1st place $4,250 2nd place - $2,500 3rd place - $1,500 3. Official Charity with the largest average dollars raised per Fundraising Runner Rules: Charities must have a minimum of 10 Fundraising Runners registered. The average dollars raised will be calculated based on individual Fundraising Runner totals only. Donations made to Fundraising Teams or the Charity will not be included in the calculation. 1st place $4,250 2nd place - $2,500 3rd place - $1,500 Additional Rules: 1) Prizes for each official charity are calculated based upon funds raised by individual registrants and teams registered for a specific charity. 2) Online fundraising (credit card donations) closes Monday, June 20th, 2016, at 5:00pm AST. 3) Cash and cheque donations must be entered in the fundraising system by Monday, June 20th, 2016, at 5:00pm AST. 4) All offline donations (cash and cheques) must be verified by charity administrators by Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 at 5:00pm AST. 5) Fundraising totals and awards will be based on online donations and verified offline donations entered through the Pro system by Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 at 5:00pm AST. Unverified Funds will not be counted towards totals for prizing. 6) Charities not using the Scotiabank sponsored Pro system must submit an import file to your Scotiabank Charity Challenge Coordinator by Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 at 5:00pm AST. 7) A charity cannot win more than one award. In the event that a charity should win/place in more than one category, they will be awarded the prize for the category in which they win/place by a bigger margin of victory. The margin is the percentile difference between the winning charity and the next winning charity. 8) A Fundraising Runner is a registrant who has raised $50 or more (Online and verified offline donations made directly to the Fundraising Runner.) 6. Featured Charities Each year three charities are selected to be Featured Charities giving them greater exposure and additional benefits. This includes: Special logo placement on the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon Website Scotiabank Advertising (if applicable) Branch Posters & Local Paper Active Living Expo booth registration fee waived How to Become a Future Featured Charity: To apply to become a 2016 Featured Charity, you must meet the following requirements: 1) You participated in the 2014 & 2015 Scotiabank Charity Challenge. 2) You have not been one of our Featured Charities in the past three years. 3) You fundraised a minimum of $10,000 in pledges (online and verified offline) in the 2015 Scotiabank Charity Challenge. 4) You had a minimum of 25 fundraising charity team members in the 2015 Scotiabank Charity Challenge. If you met the criteria at the end of the 2015 Scotiabank Charity Challenge and wish to be considered for Featured Charity status in 2016, please contact Sue Tregunno at charitychallenge@bluenosemarathon.com for an application form. How You Can Become an Official 2016 Charity Your charity must be a Canadian Registered Charity in good standing with Canada Revenue Agency Online Registration Form - Complete the online Scotiabank Charity Challenge Registration Form which includes: your charity s legal name, registered charity number, address, website URL Executive Director and Daily Contact Person name, email, phone etc. Acceptance of $600 registration fee Logo for your charity in high resolution in JPEG format Description of your charity (75-100 words) Images (any images associated with the charity s branding) Social media pages for charity (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) Fundraising goal (this can be modified) Information for tax receipting including an image file of the digital signature of signing director Please contact charitychallenge@bluenosemarathon.com for link to form. Accept the official Scotiabank Charity Challenge rules Pay the charity registration fee of $600, which entitles your team to 10 free registrations for race event offered at the Blue Nose Marathon. Please note: $600 Charity Registration Fee is non-refundable and non-transferable entry fees must be used during current race year. Page 8 of 13
8. Next Steps How To Register Your Charity Sign up today! 1) Fill out the online registration form. Please contact charitychallenge@bluenosemarathon.com for Registration Checklist and link to online form. 2) Upon receipt of your electronic invoice, forward your $600 registration payment to: Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon Attn: Scotiabank Charity Challenge 205 3600 Kempt Road Halifax, NS B3K 4X8 Cheques should be payable to Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon Payment by VISA or Mastercard may be made by contacting the Blue Nose Event Office at (902) 496-1889. (please call ahead 902-496-1889) Important: Charities cannot be added to the marathon registration system until we receive all of the information requested. Once all registration information is received, your charity will be set up within 2 weeks on the Blue Nose website and the Pro online fundraising system. Frequently Asked Questions Why do you charge a registration fee? By paying the Charity Registration Fee, you demonstrate that your charity is committed to the event and to recruiting at least 10 runners to help you achieve your fundraising goal. Page 10 of 13
How many free entries will the $600 registration fee provide? Each participating charity will receive a Charity PIN Code valid to register 10 individuals for the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10 KM, 5KM or Youth Run. If you wish to register a team for the Marathon Team Relay, 8 pin codes can be used to register a team. NOTE: Each relay team requires 8 pin codes be used to register, regardless of how many participants are within the team, e.g. between 4 and 8. Please contact your Charity Challenge Coordinator for further details. Charities can use these entries as an incentive for participants to raise pledges for their cause. Examples: The first 10 people who sign up to run and fundraise for your charity receive a free entry or the first 10 fundraisers who commit to raise $300 receive a free registration. Please Note: If a fundraising runner has paid for his/her event registration, the registration fee cannot be refunded in order to use a Charity PIN code. What about my team members who are paying for their own race entries? Participants who do not receive a Charity PIN Code for a free registration will pay the regular event rates. No. We provide a great world-class event with zero risk to you with free online fundraising for all official charities of the Scotiabank Charity Challenge. Your charity receives 100% of the funds raised through the FrontStream Pro online fundraising system. What will our charity receive? Website promotion through http://bluenosemarathon.com/ as well as complimentary online fundraising through FrontStream Pro courtesy of Scotiabank. Digital artwork to promote the event, which you can customize with your charity s logo and fundraising information. Support for your PR and media events by the Scotiabank Charity Challenge Coordinator to promote your charity and encourage participation and fundraising on your behalf. Opportunity to purchase booth space at 50% discount at the 2-day Active Living Expo, one of Atlantic Canada s largest lifestyle shows. Support and training with the FrontStream Pro system. What is expected of our charity? Promote the event to your supporters. Solicit participation to fundraise for your organization. Make the event part of your communication strategy. Public Relations and media support. Work together with the event organizers and our partners to secure media coverage. Have people from your organization available for media interviews or media events. Highlight unique human interest stories that will grab the media and public s attention. Reward and honour the individuals who have come out to support your organization and recognize their achievement. Identify someone within your charity who will work with our Scotiabank Charity Challenge Coordinator and who will manage the administrative aspects of the event. Arrange for charitable representation at the Blue Nose Marathon on race weekend, May 20-22, 2016. How do Fundraisers Register? Blue Nose Marathon is currently developing a new and improved registration system for 2016. Detailed registration instructions will follow once updates are finalized in late November. How is the event promoted? Social Media Local Advertising Running publications and online promotions Print materials Earned media relations How can we attract supporters? Use your networks to encourage participation in the Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon and the Scotiabank Charity Challenge. Recruit local celebrities, corporations, supporters, groups and individuals to run on your behalf. Engage a Corporate Partner employees participate as fundraising runners and/or company supports your charity with a donation. Page 12 of 13
Build a great incentive program to encourage and reward your fundraisers. Offer incentive prizes to your top fundraisers. Get creative (ipods, running gear, tickets to local events and trips are all examples of incentive prizes that have been offered by charities in the past). Direct your team to http://bluenosemarathon.com/ for information on training programs and clinics. Promote the free online pledge raising vehicle, FrontStream Pro. Add a direct link from your website to your FrontStream Pro fundraising page. Communicate with your runners regularly via email or newsletters to keep them engaged and motivated and go out for group runs to train for the big day! Consider branding an on-course water station with signage and provide volunteers to staff it. Show your charity s colours on race day! Plan a post-race party. Find a local restaurant/pub to sponsor your team(s). Reward your runners for their achievements.
