MEMORIES ATLANTA CHAPTER ARMA INTERNATIONAL The directory committee wanted each member to know the chapter history and to take pride in the camaraderie and endeavors of their fellow members. The Chapter history is a compilation of member s teamwork and individuals working for the betterment of the chapter and ARMA International. Therefore, the history is incomplete for the growth and accomplishments of the chapter is an ongoing process. The history was collected by reading the minutes, newsletters, and picking members memory. The Chapter s archives should contain all of the history but unfortunately this is not the reality. If you have any Chapter newsletters, minutes, treasurer reports etc. please donate them to the Chapter archives. Any errors made in the documentation of the Chapter s history is unintentional and the committee will be happy to make any corrections. 1966 July 19 The Charter for the Atlanta Chapter was presented to the first twenty-six members of the Atlanta Chapter. September 20 The first regular meeting of the chapter was held at Herren s Restaurant, Atlanta.

1967 September 1 The first edition of ARMAtlanta newsletter was issued by the Public Relations Committee. October 12 The first Board of Directors met: A.K. Johnson, President; Ruth Schaeffer, Vice President; Betty Ramsden, Secretary; Mark Blacker, Treasurer; Edna Earl Cunningham, Director; James E. Futral, Director; Carroll Hart, Director; O. Crawford Jenkins, Director November 1 Chapter adopts its first Constitution and By-Laws Mrs. Ruth Schaeffer was named Chapter Member of the Year 1968 Carlton Brown was selected Records Manager of the year for Region III Harry Ludwig was elected President of ARMA International 1969 October Sara Owens was selected Records Manager of the Year for Region III November Joe Wright was named Chapter Member of the Year 1970 November Wilbur Kurtz, Jr. won the Britt Literary Award. 1971 March - Bob Campbell, Region III Vice President September - Three Atlanta members were chosen by Governor Jimmy Carter to assist with the State Reorganization program. September - Sara Owens, Region III Vice President November Crawford Jenkins was name Chapter Member of the Year. December Atlanta Chapter donated Records Management Quarterly to ten libraries: Atlanta Public Library, Georgia State, Georgia Technology, Fulton County Board of Education, DeKalb College, Atlanta Public School Record Center, Morris Brown College, Clayton Junior College, Oglethorpe College, and Kennesaw Junior College. 1972 October Atlanta Chapter hosted the annual national conference. 1973 February Atlanta Chapter donated $100.00 to Peachtree High School for a fully equipped Office Classroom. November Sara Owens was selected by Information and Records Management magazine as one of the outstanding Records Managers in the country. November John Dunn was named Chapter Member of the Year. 1974 Crawford Jenkins became treasurer for ARMA International. November John Dunn received the Award for Merit for Region III. June Dick Heimerich was named Chapter Member of the Year.

1975 October - John Dunn received the Award of Merit for Region III. November Harmon Smith was elected ARMA International Archivist. Atlanta Chapter supports Abraham Baldwin College Records Management Degree Program with a $1,000.00 grant. Dick Heimerick was named Chapter Member of the Year. 1977 John Dunn was asked by President Carter to come to the White House to advise on records in the White House should be kept. Crawford Jenkins was named Chapter Member of the Year. Elizabeth Crank, Dorothy Keegan and Ronnie Shaddix received Special Service Awards. Mary Hall received Outstanding Achievement Award. Sara Owens received Outstanding Chapter Member Award. John Dunn received National Distinguished Achievement Award and Award of Merit. John Dunn received Emmett Leahy Award. Sara Owens received Chapter Member of the Year. 1981 June Newsletter name is changed to ARMAGRAM. Don Caldwell became Region III Vice President. Crawford Jenkins, CRM was named Chapter Member of the Year. 1982 October Atlanta Chapter hosted the annual national conference. Barbara Hudspeth received Award for Professional Contributions. Harry Ludwig was named Chapter Member of the Year Award. Crawford Jenkins received award for Association Contributions. Judith Bates received Award for Chapter Contributions. Carroll Hart, Yolanda Lewellyn for Mike Lewellyn, posthumously, A.K. Johnson and Tony Duncan received Special Certificate of Appreciation. Doug Haire was elected President of ARMA International 1983 Harry L. Ludwig III, CRM became Region III Vice President. Harry L. Ludwig III, CRM was named Chapter Member of the Year. 1984

Elaine W. Thomas was named Chapter Member of the Year. 1985 Judith A. Bates, CRM was named Chapter Member of the Year. 1986 Atlanta Chapter turns twenty years old! October Atlanta Chapter awarded Chapter of the Year. Doug Haire was elected President of ARMA International Crawford Jenkins, CRM received O. Crawford Jenkins Professional Award. Wendy Shade was named Chapter Member of the Year. 1987 Debbie O Galvin and Carlos Vazquez received Special Achievement recognition for perfect attendance to the monthly meeting workshops since 1985. Don Schewe accepted a lifetime membership certificate in ARMA on behalf of former President Carter. Judith A. Bates received O. Crawford Jenkins Professional Award. Martha H. Sharpe, CRM was named Chapter Member of the Year. 1988 October Atlanta Chapter awarded Chapter of the Year. Atlanta Chapter awarded Gwinnett Tech student Chapter Scholarship. Wendy Shade was elected President of ARMA International. Amelie Hooper was named Rookie of the Year. Frank Miele was named Committee Manager of the Year. Carlos Vazquez was named Contributions to the Chapter Award. Tony Duncan received the Professional Award. Shirley Joiner was named Chapter Member of the Year. Harry Ludwig III received the O. Crawford Jenkins Professional Award. Harry Ludwig, III and Douglas Haire were awarded a Certificate of Appreciation and a Lifetime Membership in ARMA-Atlanta. 1989 George H. Brodnax IV was named Chapter Member of the Year. David R. Bynum, CRM received O. Crawford Jenkins Professional Contributions Award. Anne C. Aaron was named Committee Manager of the Year. Wendy Shade received the Association Award. Carlos Vazques received the Professional Award.

Cathy Smith was named Rookie of the Year. Beth Aloi Barr received the Chapter Contributions Award. 1990 Atlanta Chapter turns twenty-five years old. Atlanta Chapter was incorporated. Chapter directory was published. Atlanta Chapter assisted the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games with their records as a contribution to the 1996 Summer Olympics. Atlanta Chapter was named Chapter of the Year. Elizabeth Barr was named Chapter Member of the Year. Louise Hansen, CRM received O. Crawford Jenkins Professional Contributions Award. Mildred Gilmer was named Committee Manager of the Year. Geoffrey Arapian received Chapter Contributions Award. David Bynum, CRM received the Association Award. Carlos Vazquez received the Professional Award. Harry Ludwig, CRM was inducted into the Company of Fellows. Don Schewe chaired a records management project for Woodruff Art Center. 1991 September 21 - Atlanta Chapter hosted International Day. Atlanta Chapter donated canned food for the Food Bank. Atlanta Chapter members volunteered at Georgia Public Television to help them with their Spring Membership drive. Wendy Shade received the O. Crawford Jenkins Professional Contributions Award. Elizabeth Barr was named Chapter Member of the Year. Martha Griffin was named Rookie of the Year. 1992 Atlanta Chapter members volunteered at Georgia Public Television to help them with their Spring Membership drive. Crawford Jenkins, CRM was inducted into the Company of Fellows. Elizabeth Barr received the O. Crawford Jenkins Professional Contributions Award. Carlos M. Vazquez was named Chapter Member of the Year. 1993 Atlanta Chapter members volunteered at Georgia Public Television to help them with their Spring Membership drive. Atlanta Chapter newsletter was renamed The Flaming Peach. Atlanta Chapter donated cleaning supplies to the Salvation Army for 1994 Georgia Flood victims.

Crawford Jenkins Professional Contributions Award. 1994 Atlanta Chapter collected art supplies and craft items for the Fulton County Emergency Shelter. Atlanta Chapter newsletter The Flaming Peach was named best newsletter in a large chapter. Douglas Haire received the O. Crawford Jenkins Professional Contributions Award. Don Schewe, CRM was named Chapter Member of the Year. Andre Clark was named Rookie of the Year. Marty Mulinix received Professional Contributions Award. David Lupcke received Chapter Contributions Award. Patti Medlin was named Committee Manager of the Year. 1995 Atlanta Chapter turned thirty years old. Atlanta Chapter collected toys for Toys for Tots. Atlanta Chapter donated Christmas decorations for indigent families in assisted by KIND, Inc. (Kids In Need of Dreams). Renee Willis was named Committee Manager of the Year. Cheryl Brown received Chapter Contributions Award. Juana Walker was named Chapter Member of the Year. Tony Wilson received Professional Contributions Award. Don Schewe, CRM received O. Crawford Jenkins Professional Award. Don Schewe, CRM received Association Award. 1996 Atlanta Chapter received Honorable Mention for The Flaming Peach from ARMA International. Juana Walker received the O. Crawford Jenkins Professional Contributions Award. David Lupcke was named Chapter Member of the Year. 1997 Atlanta Chapter donated Christmas decorations for indigent families in assisted by KIND, Inc. (Kids In Need of Dreams). Debra Beasley was named Committee Manager of the Year. Greg Sharpe, CRM received the Chapter Contributions Award. Marilyn Long received the Professional Contributions Award. Lance Hatfield was named Rookie of the Year Award. Marty Mulinix was named Chapter Member of the Year Award.

Brodnax, IV was named Chapter Member of the Year. 1999 Don Schewe, CRM was made a lifetime honorary member of the Atlanta Chapter. Don Schewe, CRM, FAI was inducted into ARMA International Company of Fellows. George H. Brodnax IV received the O. Crawford Jenkins Professional Contributions Award. Debra Beasley was named Chapter Member of the Year. 2000 Anne Aaron, CRM received the O. Crawford Jenkins Professional Contributions Award. Linda E. Long, CRM was named Chapter Member of the Year. 2001 Mary Lou Weng, CRM received the O. Crawford Jenkins Professional Contributions Award. Scott Taylor was named Chapter Member of the Year. Mary K. Wilson received Chapter Contributions Award 2002 Mary K. Wilson was named Chapter Member of the Year. Debbie Carlisle was named Committee Manager of the Year. Joan Nuss received Chapter Contributions Award. Debbie Hock received Professional Contributions Award. 2003 Dana Moore was named Chapter Member of the Year. Juana Walker received Distinguished Service Award. Mary Wilson was named Committee Manager of the Year. Adrianne Evans received Chapter Contributions Award. Dana Moore received Professional Contributions Award. 2004 Atlanta Chapter assist American Cancer Society with implementation of a records management program. Atlanta Chapter donated socks to the Men s Shelter at Central Presbyterian in downtown Atlanta. Scott Taylor was hosen Manager of Region III. Juana Walker was chosen Treasurer of Region III.
