1. Specials betting BBC Sports Personality of the Year SPOTY specialist sweet on the Rocket 22/1 massive Each Way value We re sweet on Ronnie... Our BBC Sports Personality of the Year ( SPOTY) specialist has a habit of carving out decent positions last year he ended up with the front two in the betting and the eventual winning one-two, Hamilton @ 16/1 and McIlroy @ 20/1, both at double-figure Each Way prices. And we re gunning for a similar strategy again in 2015 And this wager is part one Picking off the value BEFORE the relevant sportsman/ woman achieves greatness is the key to this market you will fire a few blanks of course, but the bottom line is getting value about the following double Sportsperson winning their calendar highlight multiplied by Sportsperson then winning SPOTY. And it s this double that makes Ronnie O Sullivan so appealing at any price down to 14/1 22/1 massive Each Way value The snooker tour is, not for the first time, looking a little ragged at the moment Selby, Robertson, Ding and Trump have all wobbled this season and more significantly, none have managed to come up with their A Game when required Trump has no doubt been the best of the also rans, but his exit in the recent Masters and Championship League tournaments indicate that he is still misfiring. O Sullivan on the other hand has ripped 13 consecutive wins on the tour since November and seems intent on nailing Hendry s CV in a number of departments especially the century breaks and World Championship departments. Add to the fact that Ron has matured greatly over the years, gained the respect of a wide slice of the snooker fraternity and is competing in an event that is broadcast exclusively on the BBC, and it is fair to assume that, if he were to win the World Championships, his SPOTY price would contract significantly to a point where 14/1+ would look a golden bet. Going back to that all-important double sees Ronnie chalked up at just 7/4 for the Worlds which in turn would make him around a 7/1 shot to then go on to win SPOTY; and that s simply too big a price, especially the each way part.
2. Football Europa League 2014/2015 Ambitious Besiktas value Liverpool not a bad draw for the Turks Great value Besiktas Each Way @ 33/1... Ambitious Besiktas value The owners of Besiktas are in January transfer talks for Chelsea pair Mohamed Salah and Nathan Ake with the Turks intending to take the pair on loan until the end of the season. The Black Eagles have also been linked with the likes of Sporting s Junior Caiçara, Dinamo Zagreb s Ivo Pinto & Cruzeiro s Mayke, Helsinborg right back Emil Krafth and Udinese s Cameroon international Nyom. The ambition of this club is healthy right now and with money to spend we re confident this already potent club will look in decent bench shape come the end of January. Liverpool not a bad draw for the Turks
Drawing Liverpool knocked the Besiktas price out a chunk, but to be honest, there were plenty worse match ups in the pot. At least playing the Reds, Besiktas strengths are well matched up their incessant attacking philosophy will flourish against a side that has shipped 12 goals in Europe so far this season and that has one of the worst defences in the top half of the Premier League table managing just 6 clean sheets so far this season (v Burnley, Sunderland twice, Spurs, Stoke and Hull). Besiktas are quietly confident of a decent result against Liverpool and given manager Slaven Bilic s track record in this competition, we re more than happy to take the Turks at such an inflated price. 33/1 Each Way is great value.
3. Double World Championship snooker & French Open tennis 2015 Ronnie on another planet Djokovic in for a promising 2015 Each Way double @ 6/1+ Ronnie on another planet Ronnie O Sullivan is looking in super form at the moment as we predicted months ago, Hendry s CV is starting to become a big issue for the Londoner and together with his improved maturity in the face of adversity, the Rocket is starting to look like a package that ticks all boxes. O Sullivan said the other day that he feels like he has been a pro for just four years and I can understand his reasons for saying that it ties in with his appointment of sports psychologist Steve Peters, during which time he has bagged a couple of world titles and strung together some super form featuring long win streaks and a collection of victories that needed to be earned in the absence of brilliance. Even at 7/4 the Rocket looks a decent bet the longer format has always seen the Londoner excel and the place part (for winning four matches) at near on Evens is also bigger than our price. Djokovic in for a promising 2015 I m really looking forward to watching Novak Djokovic this season I m expecting the Serb to record one of his best seasons on the tour since he turned pro in 2004, and it s the French Open that will be the focus of the front half of the season. To be honest, the Serb has been a little unfortunate not to have won the French so far he certainly hasn t had the best of luck in running, and starting with the passing of his grandfather back in 2012, a bizarre combination of circumstances have cost the Serb the chance to lift the French open trophy. But 2015 looks his best shot yet with Nadal and Federer on the downwards curve (albeit for different reasons) and Murray struggling to find any kind of consistent form, the Serb will have a golden chance to make it through to the second week and from there it will take a very good performance to beat him on clay over the best of 5 sets. Both men should be shorter in the betting in our opinion. O Sullivan is 15/8 for the Worlds, with Djokovic 13/8 for the French Open and we re happy to take odds around the 6/1 mark for the Each Way double.
4. Tennis Davis Cup 2015 Czech team looks solid Jiri Vesely a key figure Czech Republic Each Way value @ 8/1 Czech team looks solid I tried to find a way to back Australia their draw sees them guaranteed a home tie right the up to the final, and I quite like the pairing of Tomic and Kyrgios on a fast court Down Under. But playing the Czechs on what will likely be a slow clay court is a disaster for the Australians and even without Tomas Berdych in the side (he has pulled out of the first round match but will play the QF/qualification match) this Czech side looks worth supporting at 8/1 or 7/1. As is always the case in the Davis Cup, the doubles pairing will be key and having the likes of Stepanek (should be fit by March), Dlouhy, Rosol and Cermak to choose from puts the tie well in their favour.
Jiri Vesely a key figure Jiri Vesely is going to be a key figure for the Czech team this year and his figures on clay are, for me, the bet trigger here. The first round is going to be the tester (without their talisman Berdych in the side) but Stepanek can be fancied to take some part in the rubber; if only as a supporter, and both Rosol and Vesely have the prowess on clay to make life very hard for the Australians. A very winnable tie against either the Italians or the Kazakhs in the quarter finals followed by a home tie against the French in the semis (with Berdych back in the side) looks a decent path to the final and at 8/1 or 7/1, Berdych and his new look Czech singles partners look a decent bet.
5. Rugby Union World Cup 2015 Positive Pumas a team to follow Pool C is a decent draw Argentina value @ 80/1 Each Way Positive Pumas a team to follow For a long time, the Argentinean Rugby Union side has been labelled as the conservative side of the southern hemisphere, however, thanks to the advances made in the latest Rugby Championship campaign, the Pumas are fielding a new brand of rugby and one that is far better suited to their make-up. Wingers Manuel Montero and Juan Imhoff have started their international careers off in great fashion whilst fly-half Nicolas Sanchez signalled his potency by grabbing the Top Points Scorer in the recent Rugby Championship campaign. The Argentineans are putting on show a good style of rugby and this price is simply well wide of the mark especially the place part which is laying us around 26/1 about the Pumas reaching the final. Pool C is a decent draw Drawing the All Blacks at the pool stage is no bad thing as it means you avoid them right the way up until the final (if you manage to qualify for the knockout stages) and I fancy the Argentineans strongly to get through Pool C with flying colours (the bookmakers bet around 1/4 that the Pumas make it through to the quarter finals). At that stage of affairs, the Pumas would play either the winner or runner up of Pool D likely Ireland or France and this new look Argentina side (having already beaten Australia in the recent Rugby Championship) would have nothing to fear. We would then be on the Pumas at around 26/1 to win their next match and given it won t be the Kiwis, I don t care who we play. Argentina look a great Each Way bet and by betting early here we re getting superb value at 80/1.
