Why? The use of information- and communication technology in Finland in hotel- and restaurant education is minimal Net based education material is scattered and thus difficult to use -> the project will assemble Lack of updated, high quality education material for degrees of this industry -> the project will produce Need for a common international, modern and anticipating professional forum To create a national cooperation between the organizers of restaurant education and the entrepreneurs in business life To develop the contents of education in this industry and to add diverse cooperation with working life
Aim To remodel the methods of teaching in restaurant industry to get an entity which uses information- and communication technology together with a committed national network of working life To create an appealing, international, inspiring and innovative information- and learning environment which also remodels know-how -> A new learning environment, built with a social web application in which information and communication technology will be a solid part of teaching
How? A virtual bar learning environment is built around the elements of the drink product and bar work applying the social web The material for the learning environment will be produced during the project by shared expertise (work- and business life, school, students); it will contain web pages, different kinds of professional files and exercises, courses, photos, videos and blogs etc. The material will be nationally available and it will be linked to the contents of the degrees in restaurant industry The base of the educational environment will be Discendum Ltd s Kyvyt.fi eportfolio service
Kyvyt.fi Intended especially for Finnish schools, educational establishments and colleges teaching and guidance environment Realization based on an application called Mahara, e.g. an eportfolio base, PLE-environment, web supporting base of the social web One of the functions is to support employers and interest groups in working life by being a wide and interesting eportfolio center (creating communication between employers, students and educational establishments by means of social media) Folders and files (texts, voice, pictures, videos), blogs and material from other sources, e.g. web pages, discussion forums eportfolio centre which is interesting for the representatives of working life ( applying for a job) SOURCE: Oppilaitosten rajat ylittävä Kyvyt.fi eportfoliopalvelu, Discendum Oy
