Vail Adult Ski Racing Programs 2013-14 Camp 1 - Pre Season SL and GS Training Get back on snow with a comprehensive technical training program. The camp includes a complete evaluation of equipment including boot fit and alignment, ski prep including base and side bevels and proper base grind. Functional movement screen (FMS) will be provided by Ski & Snowboard Club Vail (SSCV) Strength and Conditioning staff. Joint health screening will be provided by Howard Head Sports Medicine staff. Participants will receive complete ski prep for two pairs of skis during training camp by SSCV professional technicians working with our state of the art equipment in the SSCV Pro Shop. Participants can focus on taking full advantage of the education and training environment and will not need to do equipment preparation! A maximum of 12 participants will be accepted. A minimum of 3 coaches will conduct each training session. Dates: November 11-14, 2013 Program: All of Ski & Snowboard Club Vail s resources are utilized to provide the adult ski racer with a comprehensive training experience. Daily warm-up and movement preparation will be led by the Strength and Conditioning staff and precede on-snow training. Post training video will be reviewed during the provided lunch, followed by a technical skiing session. Video will be archived on www.sprongo.com for personal remote review. Slalom and Giant Slalom training including free-skiing, drills, gate progressions, video analysis and timed training are utilized to maximize improvement in an intensive 4 day training camp on Vail s Golden Peak Competition Arena. Training is conducted alongside teams from around the world as they prepare for their World Cup, NCAA and FIS racing seasons. Morning and evening programs include video analysis, sport psychology, nutrition, conditioning and equipment preparation. Staff:
Head Coach Crawford Pierce, Alpine Private Coach ~ Consultant/Athlete Management Crawford began his coaching career in 1977 as the head Coach of the Ford Sayre Ski Council s Alpine Program. Since then he has had a long string of experiences at Waterville Valley, NH with the BBTS Racing Program, moving to Burke Mountain Academy taking on many responsibilities as coach, teacher, assistant Head Master, and finishing up as Head Coach. From there he moved on to the US Ski Team where he ended up the Men s Head B Team/Europa Cup Coach. Chip Woods brought Crawford into Ski Club Vail in 1995, where he served as Head Alpine Coach, Men s Head Coach and PG Program Director. Out of this evolved his private team Bald Mountain Racing which later became Team Go~USA. In 2003, he went back to the USST with the National Development System as Head Coach of the Rocky/Central Regional Team. In 2006 he became Program Director and Head Coach at Crested Butte Academy, leaving the next year to take on a great position heading up a newly formed private team called Team Geronimo out of Aspen. Last season he came back to SSCV as a private coach and is now doing projects with SSCV and running his own private team and consulting business. Throughout the years Crawford has had many experiences running and coaching Master s Camps from the East Coast to the West Coast and at SSCV. Special SL Guest Coach Kristina Koznik Landa, Special SL Guest Coach Kristina, a three-time Olympic team member, will go down in history as one of America's most decorated female World Cup slalom racers, with five National Slalom titles and 20 World-Cup podium finishes, including 6 World Cup wins. Recently retired from professional racing, Koz (as everyone calls her) runs her ski business out of Vail and Aspen, Colorado working with corporate groups and families to make their ski days as exhilarating as possible! If you look in some of the magazines you will see Koz doing photo shoots for Vail Resorts as well as some of the local freelance photographers. She is highlighted in some of the Volkl ski and Marker helmet ads, Peak Magazine and a recent spotlight article in Vail Luxury (Home & Lifestyle magazine). On top of all of the skiing Kristina takes part in, she is also a certified massage therapist. Her focus is on neuromuscular reprogramming which is often needed when athletes are trying to come back from an injury or working to optimize their muscular output and performance. Enthusiastically in love with powder, you will find her on the nearest mountain anytime it snows! Camp Director and Coach Sara Radamus, Alpine Private Coach Sara has a long history with SSCV beginning in 1982 when she was the Women s Nor Am Coach working with the club s top women racers. From 1983-86 she was the Head J2 Coach for both men and women before leaving for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club where she held the same position until 1991. From 1991-94 Sara was the Head Women s Coach at SSWSC where she also served as the Director of Recruiting for the newly implemented Ski
Racing Program at the Lowell Whiteman School. From 1994-2009 Sara worked with a number of athletes as a private coach. For the last 25 years, Sara has also been the Director and Head Coach of Sports Club International, Inc., conducting summer training camps in New Zealand, Sunday River, Whistler, Saas Fe, Mt. Hood, Valle Nevado, Pitztal, Copper Mountain and Vail/Beaver Creek. Sara As was a student/athlete, in the first graduating class of Stratton Mountain School and went on to compete for Middlebury College where she graduated with a B.S. in Art History. She was a four-time All American and Middlebury College s Athlete of the Year in 3 of those years. She was also recognized as Ski Racing s Collegiate Skier of the Year in 1979. From 1980-82 she raced on the Women s Professional Ski Racing Tour. Sara holds the highest level of coaches certification from USSA as an International Level 5 Coach. She has also served as an examiner for Levels 1-3 at the National Coaches Academy. Sara has participated as a US Ski Team Associate Coach at numerous World Cup, Europa Cup, World Junior Championship, Topolino and Whistler Cup projects, as well as, at all levels of National competitions. Email: sradamus@skiclubvail.org Coach and Logistics Coordinator Lad Lavicka, YSL Team Coach/Master's Coach Lad joined SSCV in 2012. He is originally from Chagrin Falls, Ohio and has previously been affiliated with Holiday Valley Race Team, Squaw Valley Race Team and Grenoble University Club. Lad holds a Level 100 USSA Coaching certification and has coached U12, U14 and U16 age groups. In addition to coaching at SSCV Lad is an RMD Alpine Coach and Official. As an athlete Lad was the Central Division Region IV Champion and competed on the American Pro Tour. Lad s goal for his athletes this season is to help them gain self-confidence while improving their ski ability, meeting or exceeding their goals. Lad studied at Western State College and Kent State University. When he isn t surrounded by ski racing, he enjoys sailing and spending time with his friends and family.

Originally from Maryland, she played soccer and earned a B.A in Psychology and Elementary Education at Washington College. She is a certified consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. As the clubs Peak Performance Coach her goal is to train athletes in the mental skills that help them to perform their best. When not working she enjoys snowboarding, biking and playing ice hockey. Brian learned to ski at the Maple Valley Ski Area in Dummerston, Vermont and first moved to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. His knowledge, dedication, and passion for the ski business comes through vendor, and retail business development opportunities in Germany (Marker GmbH), Utah (Fischer Race Dept), New Zealand (HEAD Skis), and most recently in Colorado (Podium Sports and Winston Retail Solutions/The North Face Project). Brian has strong industry ties with equipment vendors and brings a wealth of boot service and product
knowledge to assist SSCV athletes and coaches in SSCV s ongoing vision to be recognized as the premier winter sports organization in the world. Brian s primary commitment to SSCV athletes revolves around ensuring athletes are using the best equipment for them, and that equipment is properly set up and maintained throughout the 12 month training and competition calendar. When Brian is away from the alpine skiing world, he enjoys mountain biking, alpine climbing, ski touring, and getting as far off the beaten path as possible into remote areas of Colorado and the Intermountain West. Coach Wurth is responsible for the training of full-time ski and snowboard athletes from all disciplines, helping them to achieve their full athletic potential. Coach Wurth is a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction (CSCS*D) and holds the Level 1 USA-Weightlifting certification. Jake s abstract was selected for presentation at the 2013 International Congress on Science and Skiing (ICSS) in St. Anton a. Arlberg, Austria and is published in the 6 th edition of the ICSS Journal. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Jake received his Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha where he also played baseball for the Mavericks. Before joining SSCV, Jake was a Strength & Conditioning Coach and the Coaching Performance Coordinator at the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) for 5 ½ years at their World Headquarters in Colorado Springs. In the NSCA Performance Center, Coach Wurth designed and implemented safe and effective strength and conditioning programs
for a variety of sports, ages, and ability levels of athletes. He also traveled around the country to conduct hands-on educational camps and clinics to teach coaches the fundamentals of strength and conditioning. Jake has been attending courses hosted by the Postural Restoration Institute (PRI) to expand his knowledge of an integrated approach to strength and conditioning. These courses improved his ability to reduce the chance of injury as well as increase the accuracy to measure and improve athletic performance. As a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Coach Wurth has trained athletes ages 7 to 60+ competing in sports ranging from snowboarding and lacrosse, to swimming and ultimate fighting. Currently working on programs for groups and individuals, Coach Wurth s goal for all of his athletes is to help them attain their maximum level of performance while keeping their injuries to a minimum. Jake is also passionate about nutrition and keeping up to date with the most current research to continue evolving his knowledge to help the athletes maintain optimal health. Jake s goal for his athletes is to improve their overall performance and to develop not only great athletes but great people. In his free time Jake enjoys skiing and snowboarding, hiking 14ers with his two dogs, camping and anything that involves being outdoors. I want to provide special diet needs for those who need or desire. I intend to create dining that people want with nutrition that people need. Chef graduated from Minneapolis Culinary School in 1982 while working at Jerry s Deli. Her first restaurant job was at the Decathlon Club, a private athletic club. She was the Head Chef at Boulder River Ranch, where she met her husband. She was the Executive Chef Food and Beverage Manager at Pacos River Ranch, where she met Aldo and Sara Radamus. In addition
she worked as the Banquet Chef at Grouse Mountain Grill in Beaver Creek, Head Chef at Trappers Cabin in Beaver Creek and has been a Private Chef here in the Vail Valley as well as in Martha s Vineyard and a South Dakota Hunting Camp. Email: llange@skiclubvail.org Aldo Radamus, Executive Director Aldo began his career at Wilmot Mountain, a small ski area outside of Chicago in 1979. From 1981 to 1984 Aldo coached at Ski Club Vail and left to coach the U.S. Ski Team where he was the Women s Head World Cup SL and GS Coach until 1986 while still residing in the Vail Valley. In 1986 Aldo and his wife Sara, also a SCV coach at the time, moved to Steamboat Springs where Aldo became the Head Alpine Coach for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. In 1990, Aldo received the award as USSA Domestic Coach of the Year. In 1994 Aldo returned to the US Ski Team first as the Men s Head World Cup SL and GS Coach becoming Athlete Development Director in 1996 and finally as Development Team Head Coach prior to returning to Vail with Sara and son River. In August 2002 Aldo assumed the Executive Director s position here at Ski & Snowboard Club Vail.
