Rhonda Lockhart, J M Smith Corp. Rhonda Lockhart is Director of Corporate Human Resources for Spartanburg, South Carolina-based J M Smith Corporation, the state s third-largest privately held corporation. With roots in the pharmaceutical business, J M Smith now has five subsidiary companies serving the healthcare and other industries, with sales exceeding $1 billion annually. Lockhart joined JMS at the division level in 1993 and was promoted to the Corporate HR position in 2000. Her responsibilities include all companywide HR policies and procedures, all benefits programs, and payroll administration for a workforce of 1,200 employees across 34 states. The company s award-winning Wellness Program is one example of innovative HR initiatives developed under Lockhart s leadership. Lockhart previously spent 13 years as an HR generalist for Phillips Petroleum. She earned her Bachelor s Degree in Business Administration from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. Lockhart was president of the SC Human Resources Association and remains involved at state and local levels. Recently, she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Greenville Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management. Rhonda is a graduate of Leadership Spartanburg, an invitation-only program to develop business and community leaders. She is a board member for the United Way of the Piedmont and Spartanburg s Partners in Active Living and a member of the Mary Black Hospital System s Woman s Advisory Group. Rhonda enjoys cooking classes and practicing her culinary arts for very willing friends and neighbors. Robert Hamilton, CIGNA Robert has fifteen years of experience as VP of Medical Affairs. He was Chief Medical Officer prior to joining Cigna Healthcare. Robert also has additional operational and staff leadership responsibilities for case management, quality, risk management, medical staff offices, and employed physicians in a broad array of specialties. Prior nine years as practicing physician including managing partner role for a practice with three physical locations and 20-person staff. Peter Chauncey, Aetna/Coventry Peter is the President of the Carolinas Market for Aenta/Coventry. Immediately prior to the recent acquistion by Aenta, he served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Coventry Health Plans serving North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Before his experience with Aenta and Coventry, Peter spent seventeen years with Kaiser Permanente in various roles and geographic areas. He currently serves as the Vice President of the North Carolina Association of Health Plans and he served on the New Models of Care Committee organized by the NC Institute of Medicine to make recommendation to NC DHHS and NC DOI about health care reform and making recommendations about the operation of health benefit exchanges in NC. Dr. Steven Shapiro, Roper St. Francis Dr. Steven Shapiro is the Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer of Roper St. Francis Healthcare. Prior to being appointed to this position in 2005, he had been the Chairman of Pediatrics and Chief of Staff at Roper Hospital. Dr. Shaprio attended undergraduate college at Rutgers College where he also received a Master s of Science degree in Genetics. Following graduate school, he worked at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) as a Research Associate. He then enrolled in the College of Dental Medicine and received his DMD degree. After a clinical fellowship in Medical Genetics, he became an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio. After four years, he returned to Charleston and enrolled in MUSC s College of Medicine and received his M.D. degree. He continued his training in Pediatrics at MUSC and became an Assistant Professor in the school s Medical Genetic Division in the Department of Pediatrics.
