Resumes can be mailed, faxed, or e-mailed directly to you. You contact the student directly and determine the interview time and location. On-Campus Interviewing Traditional On-Campus Interviews The traditional on-campus interviewing process (posting, screening, and interviewing) typically requires five to six weeks from start to finish and includes the following: Job is posted Resumes are collected online Employer "pre-selects" interview candidates Selected students schedule an interview time. After scheduling interview dates with Career Services we will publicize the position you have available and collect resumes of interested students. You will have the opportunity to review all of the resumes and make your selections. The students will receive notification that they have been selected for an interview and will sign up for a time on the interview schedule. You will interview the candidates in the Career Services office. (See page 6 for instructions on arranging on campus interviews.) Room-Only On-Campus Interviews Room-only scheduling allows you to contact students directly and schedule interviews yourself. You will select your interview candidates from an available source, such as a career fair, resume book, or contact with student groups, and interview the candidates in the Career Services office. We recommend you reserve your interview date early as these requests will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. After Career Fair Interviews Throughout the year Career Services hosts or cohosts numerous career fairs that attract a large number of students from freshman to graduate student. For selected career fairs interviews may be scheduled for the following day. This is an excellent opportunity to meet students face to face and interview them the following day. Contact Brenda Peters at bpeters@ou.edu for a list of Career Fairs offering interviews the following day. 4
Building Your Presence on Campus We appreciate your interest in recruiting at the University of Oklahoma and we want to ensure that your recruiting efforts are successful. For employers seeking additional opportunities to reach out to students, we suggest you consider the following programs or services. Information Sessions Information Sessions are usually held the night before the interview for the students you have chosen to interview. They give you an opportunity to highlight your organization prior to the actual on-campus interview and provide details about the positions for which you are recruiting. They are optimally about an hour long with snack foods or pizza served. It is a good idea to bring employees who are recent OU graduates, if possible. Our Employers Relations Team maintains a calenedar of information sessions and can assist you in making the arrangements including publicizing your event on our Web page. If you have posters or fliers you would like us to post, please send them to our office and we will see that they are posted across campus. Ship any materials in advance and we will hold them for your meeting. Career Fairs Throughout the year, Career Services hosts or co-hosts numerous career fairs that attract a large number of students from freshman to graduate students. This is an excellent opportunity to meet the students face-toface. For detailed information on each career fair, please go to our Web site, www.hiresooner.com, and click on employers and then on career fairs. Mock Interviews Mock interviews are held early in the fall and spring semester and are a great way to build your organization s reputation and presence on campus. Representatives from your organization interview students for mock positions, and then provide the students with valuable feedback. In addition to helping you build your presence on campus, mock interviews help our students refine their interviewing skills. To participate in mock interviews contact Brenda Peters at bpeters@ou.edu. Job Search Workshops Early in the fall and spring semesters, the Career Services office schedules workshops designed to teach job search skills. These are often presented by employers and cover a variety of areas including: - resume writing for technical and nontechnical majors - interviewing and behavioral interviewing - dress for success - how to work a career fair - job search strategies - dining etiquette. If you are interested in presenting a workshop in the fall or spring, contact Brenda Peters at bpeters@ou.edu. Campus Newspaper The Oklahoma Daily is the official student newspaper of the University of Oklahoma. Their staff can assist you with reaching the students in a variety of ways from classified line ads to large-format display advertising. For information on promotional opportunities through The Oklahoma Daily, contact the advertising manager at (405) 325-2521. Lunch with Faculty and Staff Each college at OU has opportunities for you to get involved with their faculty and staff. We can put you in touch with the appropriate person based on your recruiting needs. If you are visiting our office to conduct on-campus interviews and would like for us to make arrangements for you to have lunch with our faculty or staff, indicate your interest on the Interview Arrangement Form and we will contact the individuals you wish to invite and have them meet you in the Career Services office on the day of your interviews. Student Organizations If you are interested in targeting a particular student population or major, we recommend that you communicate directly with our student organizations. This is an excellent way to educate our students about the various opportunities available within your company. For a list of all student organizations that match your recruiting needs contact Brenda Peters at bpeters@ ou.edu. 5
Arranging On-Campus Interviews Schedule a Recruiting Visit To schedule a recruiting visit to the University of Oklahoma, the following steps will help ensure that all of the necessary arrangements have been made prior to your visit: 1 Schedule an Interview Date Contact Brenda Peters, Assistant Director, at (405) 325-1974 as early as possible to secure your interview date. 2 Complete the Interview Arrangement Form The Interview Arrangement Form may be completed and submitted online through Sooner Job Search, our Web-based on-campus recruiting program. Go to www.hiresooner.com and click on employers. Login to Sooner Job Search with your username and password. Complete a separate form for each schedule. Interview Arrangement Forms need to be received by our office a minimum of five weeks prior to your recruiting date. 3 Make Information Session Arrangements Plan to hold an information session to market your organization to individuals already on your schedule, as well as to those not able to schedule an interview. Use the Interview Arrangement Form to let us know what you would like. If you need to cancel your information session, cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance to avoid charges. Cancellations made 24 hours or less prior to the function will be charged 100 percent of the total. Cancellations made 25-47 hours prior to the function will result in a 30 percent cancellation fee. The Pre-Screen Process The Timetable for Recruiters shows procedures and dates for both the students and employers in the pre-screen selection process. Three Weeks Prior to the Interview Week Using a Web-based on-campus recruiting program, Sooner Job Search, students will indicate their interest in interviewing with your organization. Two Weeks Prior to the Interview Week You will log into Sooner Job Search, view the resumes and make interview selections online, or fax your list of selected interviewees to (405) 325-3402, or e-mail selections to bpeters@ou.edu by the deadline. One Week Prior to the Interview Week The selected interviewees will sign up for interview appointments. Cancellations or Changes of Schedules Students schedule interview appointments one week prior to the week of the interview. Once appointments are scheduled we feel the commitment to honor those arrangements rests equally with the candidate and employer. Therefore, changes by the organization resulting in the cancellation of appointments should be followed by letters to those candidates who have had appointments cancelled. If you cancel interviews within 24 hours of your recruiting date, you will be expected to notify candidates directly. 4 Schedule Lunch With Faculty and Staff Arrange lunch with faculty or staff by indicating on the Interview Arrangement Form the specific individuals you would like to invite. Lunch will be at your expense. Your guests will meet you in the Career Services lobby.
