Creating an itunes App Store account without a credit card Summary To create an itunes App Store account on your computer without a credit card, please follow the steps below. In order to create an account without a credit card, you must make sure you are in the App Store, not the itunes Store. Step 1 If you do not have itunes already downloaded to your computer, you must first download the itunes program. If you have itunes downloaded already, skip to Step 2. 1. Open your web browser and type in itunes or go to www.apple.com/itunes/ Click Download Now in the upper right corner and again on the left of the next screen. 2. Click on Run in pop-up window at the bottom of the page. You may have to wait a couple of minutes for the program to download. 3. After the download, the webpage will thank you for downloading itunes. You should see the following pop-up box to continue. If you do not, I recommend closing or minimizing the web page as the pop-up box is probably behind it. Click Next. Then, click I accept the terms and Next again. Check/Uncheck the preferred options and click Install. I recommend leaving the top choice selected to put an itunes icon on your desktop. 4. It could take several minutes to install. When finished, click Finished. Now, itunes should appear on your desktop. Close all windows and proceed with Step 2.
Step 2 If you already have itunes downloaded to your computer or have now completed the download in Step 1: 1. Open itunes. If there is a possibility that the itunes Store could already be open from an existing account, from the menu bar choose Store > Sign Out. You should see Sign In in the top right corner to be sure you are not logged in to a previous account. If you do not see this horizontal black bar, follow #2 below. Otherwise, skip to #3. 2. If the Store does not automatically open, click itunes Store (on the left side of the itunes window) and pick your country by clicking the appropriate country flag located in the bottom-right corner of the main itunes Store page. The default should already be the U.S. flag though. 3. Navigate to the App Store by clicking on App Store from the top navigation bar. 4. Important: Before proceeding to the next step, you must download and install a free app. To find a free app, navigate to the Top Charts column on the right hand side of the App Store window. Scroll down until you can see the list of Free Apps. Select any app by clicking on it, then click Free App or Free underneath the app icon. Starting with the free ibooks app is recommended as you may use this application to store and open PDF documents.
5. In the pop-up window, click Create New Account. 6. You are directed to the "Welcome to the itunes Store" screen. Click Continue. 7. You'll need to read and agree to the itunes Store Terms & Conditions. Make sure you check the box next to where it says "I have read and agree to the itunes Terms and Conditions." 8. Click Continue. 9. Enter the itunes email address and password assigned to you. Enter the security question What is BCSC s mascot? and answer Bulldogs (plural please). Enter your birthday. Click Continue.
10. Select None as the payment option. 11. Continue to fill out the required name and address fields. 12. You'll then see a screen that says 'Verify your Account'. Click Done and then check your email for a verification email from itunes Store. In order to check your itunes email account for the verification link, you must open your new itunes email account on Outlook. Follow instructions in #13 to see both your regular and your new itunes email accounts whenever you open Outlook. 13. Adding the itunes email account to your Outlook account: Minimize (not close) the Internet and open Outlook. From the File tab in the top left corner, select Add Account (image 1 below). In the pop-up window, enter your name and the provided itunes email address and password (image 2). The email address should configure settings and display a Congratulations pop-up window. Click Finish (image 3). You will then be directed to restart Outlook for changes to take effect. From now on, when you open Outlook, you will be asked for your itunes email password in addition to your regular email password. The left-hand column on Outlook will now display the new email account below regular email account.
14. Open the email and click the Verify Now link enclosed in the email to activate your account. 15. Once you click on the link, itunes should then prompt you to sign in with your account name and password. If you see the following pop-up box, click Allow. 16. You'll then see the below "Congratulations" screen. Click Done to be taken to the App Store home page.
