Setting up your 32GB District ipad Now that you ve got your brand new 32 GB ipad unboxed and in your hands let s go over how to operate your new touch screen device. Please note this tutorial is a quick start guide. These devices were purchased with Apple Care which allows you access to the genius bar at the Apple Store so if you have any issues or questions please refer to Apple s website (www.apple.com), Apple s ipad support website (http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/), or the Apple store. External Buttons: Home Screen *To return to your home screen from any page/app press the home button. *The page to the left of your home screen is a search function. *Downloaded apps will begin on the second page. This page is not available until you have downloaded your first app Your home screen is where all your apps are stored. As you download applications from the app store you will add additional pages to your home screen. There is no limit to the number of pages your home screen can have. When you download an app from the app store, it will be placed in the first available position beginning on the second page. From your home screen you can select what app you would like to run. To run an app simply tap the icon once. The apps on the dock (the bottom of the page) will always be on the bottom of your home screen regardless of what page of your home screen you are on. By default your dock will contain Safari (internet browser), Mail (used to access your email accounts), Photos, ipod (where music will be stored). 2 P a g e
Configuring Wifi access a. Tap Settings which is located on the home screen i. Select Wi-Fi on the settings menu located on the left side of the screen ii. Then tap the access point for your building or current location. iii. You may be prompted to enter a password. For the admin retreat the SSID is: ADMIN RETREAT Password: 0123456789 iv. Once you have entered the password you will have internet access. 3 P a g e
Configuring your Administrator Profile a. Go to the home screen and launch Safari (internet browser) Go to: https://iosmgmt.wpcsd.k12.ny.us:8443/enroll b. You are now at OTA (Over The Air) enrollment. Enter your district username and password to login and begin the automated configuration. Tap REQUIRED to begin typing. c. First you will install the Root Certificate. Tap INSTALL CERTIFICATE to begin the process d. Now the screen will switch you to an Install Profile Window. Tap INSTALL e. Now you will be prompted to install your MDM profile. Tap INSTALL f. Now the screen will switch you to an Install Profile Window. Tap INSTALL then tap INSTALL NOW 4 P a g e
g. A warning message will now appear. Read the message regarding Mobile Device Management then tap INSTALL h. You have now Installed your profile tap DONE i. At this point you have successfully enrolled your ipad via OTA. j. Within the next 20 minutes you will be prompted by three pop-ups. One will introduce you to the re-arrange icons feature. This popup can be disregarded. ******While you are waiting for the pop-ups please continue on to setting up your Apple ID (page 6) k. Another will state that your Exchange password is incorrect. Input you district password in the pop-up. Doing so will link your district email to your ipad automatically. l. The third pop-up will state that you have 60 minutes to set a 4-digit passcode of your choosing for your ipad ex. (1-2-3-4). This is required for security purposes. You will use this passcode to access your ipad after it enters sleep mode. You may select to set the passcode now or later. If you choose to wait till later, the pop-up will continue to present itself. 5 P a g e
Apple ID & App Store In order to download apps you must have WiFi access (connection to the internet) and an Apple ID which is a username and password combination that authenticates you to Apple. We will now go through the steps to creating an Apple ID for your school district account. This Apple ID account will be separate from any personal account you may or may not decide to have. a. To begin, go to the first page of your home screen and launch the Self Service (this should be the only new app on your ipad at this point). This application allows the network administrators to recommend apps for you to download b. Select an application from the list of recommended appthis will launch the app store. *NOTE: For this step the app selected must be FREE. Skype and Deskview are both free apps so you may want to select one of the two. c. Tap the free button then tap install. d. At this point you will be prompted to either log into your Apple ID account or create a new account. You want to select CREATE A NEW APPLE ID that will be tied to your district email. e. Fill in the information as appropriate i.e. Country: US, Accept terms and conditions for App store; f. Billing Information: For credit card select NONE g. For Personal Information i.e. email address, street address and phone number please use: i. your district email address, ii. the address for your school iii. a phone number specific to you (your extension or district phone) or building phone. h. Once you have completed the registration of your new Apple ID your district email will receive a confirmation from Apple. You will need to verify your Apple ID by following the directions contained in the email. Once confirmed you will be able to download apps from the app store. 6 P a g e
7 P a g e Now your ipad is configured for use. To recap, you should now have access to your district email account via the Mail app located on the dock as well as Self Service which is located on the second home page. Now head over to app store and enjoy!
