Contents Situation of received CLIAMT reports from JMA s responsible area Activities of JMA as CBSLC (from January to August 2013) Myanmar 10-day CLIMAT from Mongolia RBCN station in Cambodia Training The activities for WWR Conclusions 2

CBS LEAD CENTRES FOR GCOS COORDINATION MEETING- Fourth Session - 3 JMA s s responsible area WMO Regional Association (RA) WMO Member/ Host Institution of Lead Centre Responsible for GSN and GUAN stations in: RA II (Asia) Japan (JMA) Brunei, Cambodia, China, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam There are 13 members in RA II (Asia). GSN stations: 83 RBCN stations: 247 http://www.wmo.int/pages/prog/gcos/document s/cbs_leadcentres_gcos.pdf

CBS LEAD CENTRES FOR GCOS COORDINATION MEETING- Fourth Session - 4 Reception rate in 2013 Table 1 Reception rate of CLIMAT reports from GSN stations. Month Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr. May Jun. Jul. Aug. Rate 95.2% 91.6% 98.8% 97.6% 97.6% 97.6% 98.8% 98.8% Number 79 76 82 81 81 81 82 82 One of these stations, TAN SON HOA (48900) in Viet Nam, is an aeronautical station operated by the airport association and it is impossible for the NMHS to submit the CLIMAT report. Table 2 Reception rate of CLIMAT reports from RBCN stations. Month Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr. May Jun. Jul. Aug. Rate 93.5% 93.5% 96.4% 96.0% 96.0% 96.0% 95.5% 95.5% Number 231 231 238 237 237 237 236 236 The reception rate of the CLIMAT reports in RA II (Asia) are very good. In 2013, there is no GTS routing problem.

CBS LEAD CENTRES FOR GCOS COORDINATION MEETING- Fourth Session - 5 Activities of JMA as CBSLC (1) Myanmar Myanmar had not sent the CLIMAT reports for a long time. But I received a email from the FP for GCOS in Myanmar. JMA gave technical advice on the CLIMAT reports. Myanmar restarted to send the CLIMAT reports.

CBS LEAD CENTRES FOR GCOS COORDINATION MEETING- Fourth Session - 6 Activities of JMA as CBSLC (2) Mongolia Mongolia had sent the 10-day (not monthly) data by the same format as the CLIMAT reports. The Mongolia stopped using the header CSMO for 10- day (not monthly) data and changed the header to VSMO. After that, JMA received the 10-day data from Mongolia till March 2013 but since then JMA has not received them except for the data as of 13 August. ( They may sometimes make a mistake.)

CBS LEAD CENTRES FOR GCOS COORDINATION MEETING- Fourth Session - 7 Activities of JMA as CBSLC (3) Cambodia JMA has received the daily data of PHNOM-PENH/POCHENTONG via email every a few months from a staff member of Cambodia. JMA encodes the data to the CLIMAT report. It may take some time that Cambodia encodes the CLIMAT reports and inputs to GTS by oneself.

CBS LEAD CENTRES FOR GCOS COORDINATION MEETING- Fourth Session - 8 Activities of JMA as CBSLC (4) Training Some staff members of NMHSs are invited to the Group Training Course for Reinforcement of Meteorological Services (*) at JMA every year. JMA gave training on the CLIMAT report and lecture on the activities of CBS Lead Centre for GCOS to four participants. In 2013, the training course will be held in November. This training contributes to improve the reception rate and quality of the CLIAMT reports. * The course is organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and JMA.

CBS LEAD CENTRES FOR GCOS COORDINATION MEETING- Fourth Session - 9 Activities for WWR JMA contributed to the collection of the WWR but the number of NMHSs was 10 (about 30%) that JMA received the data from RA II by the end of June 2013. JMA answered the questions from some countries and transferred the data to WMO. Bahrain, Hong Kong, Iran, South Korea, Kuwait, Qatar, Singapore, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Japan

CBS LEAD CENTRES FOR GCOS COORDINATION MEETING- Fourth Session - 10 Conclusions There is little problem with the reception of the CLIAMT reports from JMA s responsible area except for the CLIMAT reports from Cambodia. JMA advised to the FP of Viet Nam that the station 48900, TAN SON HOA, should be deleted from GSN station list again.
