I would 100% recommend anyone interested in working in the make-up industry to consider training at Rotherham College. The College has prepared me for the make-up industry and I couldn t have done what I ve done without the support of my tutors. Emily Day Media Make-up Hair and Media Make-up student, Emily Day entered the regional Matchfit Competition, through the College, and placed 3rd in the competition with her entry in the Out of Shadows Theme. Emily is currently studying towards her HND Performing Arts: Specialist Make-up after successfully completing a Hair and Media Make-up Level 3 course at the College. At the Worlds Skills UK Competition, Emily competed against nine students from all over the UK who came in at 1st, 2nd or 3rd place at their regional Matchfit Competition. Due to her success at Matchfit, Emily received the Student of the Year Award at the College s Media Make-up End of Year Show. Lecturer in Hair and Media Make-up Kelly Carr said: Emily is very talented artistically. Body art is her specialism, she loves body art. She lives and breathes make-up. She s so passionate. Emily has done a lot of theatre work and has gained a broad spectrum of experience through College. 161

Rotherham College Students Represent Region at National Awards Three students from Rotherham College competed at the World Skills UK competition in Birmingham in November 2015, embracing the challenge to showcase their skills against other students from across the UK. World Skills UK plays a vital role in raising standards, esteem and levels of expertise in further education, apprenticeships and skills through competition activities and local initiatives. HNC Performing Arts: Specialist Make-up student, Emily Day and Information Technology Extended Diploma Level 3 students, Kyle Somerset and Connor Kirkby, competed against nine other finalists, who successfully qualified after finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the regional heats. An astrological amazement, all three students created show-stopping pieces of work that symbolised the hard work and passion for their chosen subject area. Despite their incredible efforts, Rotherham College students Emily, Kyle and Connor just missed their chance to represent the UK and compete in the World Skills competition in Abu Dhabi in 2017. Chief Executive and Principal, Gill Alton, said: The standard of work at the competition was incredible. Emily, Kyle and Connor did the College proud and proved that Rotherham is producing some of the most talented young individuals in the country. The College strives to enrich every students time with us by supporting them to enter competitions which enhances their skills, CV and employment opportunities. 162
