How do I use Citrix Staff Remote Desktop September 2014 Initial Log On In order to login into the new Citrix system, you need to go to the following web address. https://remotets.tees.ac.uk/ Be sure to update any favorites or bookmarks. This will direct you to the Teesside University - Staff Remote Desktop page with the following login prompt. Log in with your usual credentials, entering your username and password and make sure the domain is set to Windows, then click the Log On button. Once your details are processed, there are several screens that can be presented depending on the current state of your system. If this is the first time you have logged on, the web browser will attempt to determine which client you currently have installed and offer you the opportunity to download or upgrade the Citrix ICA Client if it is missing or out dated.
However rather than downloading the ICA Client you may also choose one of the following alternative options: If you believe that the client is already installed, click Already Installed. If you do not wish to install the client now, but wish to progress to the Applications screen, click Try Later. Or you can choose to Log off the system. If you do progress to the Applications screen without installing or upgrading the client, or the browser still cannot detect an appropriate client on your PC, you will receive the following warning. As well as the following warning in the messages section. You will not be able to use any of the Citrix system features until you install a suitable client.
Client Selection Once at the Application screen you may wish to install, update or simply review which client your browser is currently is set to use. Simply click on the Problem Connecting? link at the bottom right of the Applications window. From this Client Selection screen you can see which clients are currently installed on your PC as well as Select your Preferred Client to be used when launching the Staff Desktop environment. If a client is missing you can initiate its installation by clicking the Deploy link.
To install the Client for Java, you need to install Java on your PC. Click Deploy and follow the instructions from the Java website. Install Java as instructed by the Java website. Click Continue to return to the Client Selection screen once Java has finished installing. To install the Native client (the Citrix ICA client), click Deploy, then making sure you have ticked the box to accept the Citrix license agreement, click the Download button. When prompted click Run If you don t see the File Download window, you might need to follow the on screen instructions on allowing the Active X Control to run.
Once the file has downloaded you may see a User Account Control warning pop up. This will depend on the level of security you have setup on your own PC. Click Yes at this stage to initiate the installation. Click OK once complete.
The Client Selection screen will now show which clients are available on your PC. If more than one is available, you can Select your preferred Client using the drop down select box. Select which client you would prefer to use and click the Save button. You will see the following confirmation.
Applications In order to launch the full Staff Desktop, click on the Staff Desktop link on the Applications screen. This will launch via your preferred client. Once loaded a full screen desktop will appear. The icons that appear on your desktop are determined by which application groups you have access to, i.e. SITS, Agresso etc.
In order to access your Documents (your U: drive contents), click Start and then select Documents from the menu. In order to end the Staff Desktop session, click Start, Log off, then click Disconnect.
It is also possible to launch single applications that will integrate into your current desktop environment and function as if an application running on your own PC. You can also to access your Documents located on your U:Drive from the Applications screen. Click on the desired application to launch it, or click on U Drive to access your University documents.
