FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT Selection Criteria The Financial Accountant is responsible for the processing and reporting on the financial activities of the organisation. To be successful in this position you will have experience as a Financial Accountant or similar role, with strong MYOB (Premier) skills, advanced excel skills and demonstrated previous experience in managing multiple entities. Experience in the notfor-profit sector would be an advantage. Day to day functions will include but not be limited to assisting the Chief Financial Officer, in the supervision and processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, payroll, the preparation of monthly profit & loss and balance sheets, funding body financial reports and the quarterly BAS. An essential attribute to this role is the monthly analysis of income and expenditure including reconciliations, tracking against budgets, and meeting compliance for taxation, funding bodies and St John s Community Care policies and procedures. You must have a keen eye for detail, knowledge of audit and a sense of responsibility for your role. Banking on line re EFT s, BPays etc Special Circumstances This role requires some work outside of the immediate Cairns area This role requires the incumbent to have a current drivers licence Duties and Responsibilities Finance Maintain accurate financial records for all programs using MYOB Accounting package Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable including preparation of all electronic payments. Ensure all accounts are paid by the due date Responsible for bank reconciliations, profit & loss statements, aged debtors and balance sheet are correct for reporting on a monthly basis and are completed one week prior to the Board Meetings Ensure there are sufficient funds in accounts before payments are remitted Ensure all bank accounts and credit cards are reconciled on a monthly basis Responsible for all invoicing to be correct and completed when they fall due. Prepare accurate summarised monthly reports (outcomes and finance) for presentation to the Board of Directors and detailed reports for the Executive Preparing quarterly funding acquittals as instructed by funding bodies Support with the preparation of annual budgets and revisions Support with the financial & budgeting aspect of funding applications Ensure monthly transfers are completed in accordance with budgets Preparation of quarterly BAS reports & ensure payments are made by due date Support in preparation of all periodic returns as required by funding bodies Prepare annual financial statements to be submitted to external accountant for final adjustments and auditing Ensuring all required annual financial returns are prepared by external accountant and submitted to funding bodies by the due date, after approval by the CFO and Board Investment of cash assets Movements to/from MV Reserve and reconciliation Maintain cash assets specific to MV Reserve Prepare Long Service Leave worksheets and calculate all entitlements Human Resources/Payroll Maintaining salary sacrifice records and calculation of fringe benefits for PAYG payment summaries. Ensuring gross fringe benefits do not exceed the maximum amount allowable per employee for a Public Benevolent Institution Check weekly payroll for accuracy and prepare weekly payroll EFT s Interpret and apply Awards ensuring that all conditions are met Process weekly PAYG. Ensure payments are made by due date for PAYG, superannuation and annual WorkCover premium. Maintain accurate Employee files and update when necessary Preparation of Employee Contractual Agreements as required and approved by the Board 2
Preparation of annual PAYG Summaries Liaise with WorkCover and managers regarding all reportable incidents and providing reports and information as required by WorkCover Prepare advertisements for new staff as required Respond to queries from various agencies re employee enquiries/ information Oversight of payroll awards including pay rates Recruitment and maintaining appropriately skilled Finance & Administration Team, in accordance with organisational requirements, as approved by the Board Staff appraisals of Finance Team and Administration Team Leader Administration Attend meetings when necessary and report to Management in regard to outcomes. Maintenance of Asset Register Ensure all insurance policies are up to date and paid by due date Assistance in development and implementation of financial and administrative systems Compliance and adhering with all St John s Policies and Procedures Other Responsibilities All other duties as reasonably directed by the CFO and the Board Ensure current Professional Membership and ongoing Professional Development Performance Indicators Performance will be reviewed annually based on expectations and specific indicators agreed with the Chief Financial Officer. These indicators will include the achievement of all competencies as indicated above, and will include matters critical to the success of the organisation such as: Achievement of annual performance goals as identified in the Annual Performance Appraisal and Professional Development Plan.
