PURPOSE OF POSITION The position of Accounting Officer provides a range of accounting services to the Corporation including: Accounts payable and receivable, receipting and banking; Maintenance of fixed asset register; Ensuring general ledgers and subsidiary accounting systems are accurate, up-to-date and reconciled frequently; Reconciling and verifying contract based management fee invoices and custody fee invoices; Payroll reconciliation and query resolution; and Assisting the Senior Fund Accountant in the preparation, monitoring and reporting of the Corporation s budget. In addition the Accounting Officer will provide back-up support to the Accounting Officer and Graduate Officer Fund Accounting through: Establishing and reporting on the daily cash flow position; Verification of unit prices for Funds SA s investment options and asset classes; and Transaction processing, reconciliation and reporting of private equity investments. 2. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The position is a member of the Finance Team and reports to the Manager, Fund Accounting. The Chief Financial Officer leads and manages the Finance Team, co-ordinating the team s work program and instructing and guiding the team members as required. Other team members include: Senior Fund Accountant; Graduate Officer Fund Accounting; Accounting Officer; Manager, Implementation Services; Senior Performance and Reporting Analyst; Performance & Reporting Analyst; and Senior Implementation Accountant. 3. SPECIAL CONDITIONS Some out of hours work may be required. 4. ORGANISATION BACKGROUND Funds SA is a statutory authority set up by the South Australian (SA) Parliament to invest and manage the SA Public Sector superannuation funds and the nominated funds of approved authorities. It currently has 25 employees, a Board of 7 members and reports to the Treasurer. It manages in excess of $17 billion of funds. The function of Funds SA is to invest and manage public sector superannuation funds and the nominated funds of approved authorities pursuant to strategies formulated by the Corporation. The objective is to perform this function to achieve the highest return possible on investment of the public sector superannuation funds while having proper regard for: the need to maintain the risks relating to investment at an acceptable level; the need for liquidity in the funds; and such other matters as are prescribed by regulation The Finance Team is responsible for providing all financial accounting and reporting services to both internal and external parties.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES ITEM KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES % OF 1 Under the supervision of the Manager Fund Accounting & Senior Fund Accountant, administration and stewardship of Funds SA s Corporate Ledger, including: Processing accounts payable and receivable, including receipting and banking; Maintenance of fixed asset register; Ensuring general ledgers and subsidiary accounting systems are accurate, up-to-date and reconciled frequently; and Payroll reconciliation and query resolution. TIME 35% 2 Under the supervision of the Manager Fund Accounting & Senior Fund Accountant; Reconcile and certify contract based management fee invoices; and Reconcile and certify custody fee invoices. 3 Provide back-up support to the other Accounting Officer and Graduate Officer Fund Accounting through: Establishing and reporting on the daily cash flow position; Verifying unit prices for Funds SA s investment options and asset classes; and Transaction processing, reconciliation and reporting of private equity investments. 20% 25% 4 Assist the Senior Fund Accountant in the preparation, monitoring and reporting of the Corporation s budget. 5% 5 Assist the Manager, Fund Accounting & Senior Fund Accountant with year-end reporting obligations including the preparation of statutory financial statements. 5% 6 Maintenance of procedures and other documentation required as per Funds SA s Compliance Plan. 10%

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & BEHAVIOURS The essential minimum requirements for the position are: Knowledge and Experience Basic knowledge of, and experience in, applying accounting principles and standards including accrual accounting, fixed assets and depreciation. Experience in the use of recognised accounting software/systems. Systems currently used by Funds SA are: ACCPAC (general ledger, accounts payable, and receivable modules) Peresoft Cashbook ACCPAC Norming Fixed Assets Basic understanding of payroll system principles. Skills/Aptitudes Application of accounts payable and receivable principles, procedures and systems Application of fixed asset and depreciation principles, procedures and systems Sound financial reconciliation skills Experience in the use of spread sheet software to an intermediate level and word processing software to a basic level Documentation of procedures Effective oral and written communication Effective time management and prioritisation skills Ability to work with minimal supervision Ability to work well in a small team and to contribute to strong team performance Qualifications Recognised Diploma in Accounting (or working towards) Key Behaviours Accurate and timely with an attention to detail Professional, responsible and accountable Ethical, high integrity Strong communication and listening skills Pro-active, displays initiative, committed to continual improvement Innovative, open to ideas and change Supportive / team player
