Installing an IntelliLink 6 Activation File IntelliLink Remote License Activation NOTICE If you have been using IntelliLink Remote, you need to obtain a License Activation File to enable IntelliLink Remote for IntelliRupter, IntelliNode, or 6800 Series Software versions 3.5.x and higher. If you are using IntelliLink Remote with IntelliCap Plus, or any other products with older Software versions in conjunction with products using software versions 3.5.x and higher, you need to use both the IntelliLink Remote License Key and an Activation File. You need an account on the S&C Automation Customer Support Portal to obtain a License Activation File. If you do not have an account, use this link to request a password: sandc.com/support/automation-customer-support-portal.asp. The first step is to register the computers that will use IntelliLink Remote. You register a computer with its MAC address for the Local Area Ethernet adapter. The MAC address can be obtained by entering the command ipconfig/all in the command prompt. Make sure you get the MAC Address for the onboard physical adapter and not the addon or wireless adapter. If you are unfamiliar with the command prompt, you can download the S&C CheckMacAddress utility, from the IntelliTeam SG Software workspace on the S&C Automation Customer Support Portal. See Figure 5. When you have the MAC address, send an e-mail to customersupport@sandc.com with the name of the company that owns the IntelliLink Remote License, the name of the primary computer user, and the computer user s e-mail address and phone number. To see if your computer has already been registered, select the Licensing tab to view a list of computers registered to your account. Look for the designation INTELLILINK REMOTE next to the computer s MAC address. Figure 5. IntelliTeam SG Software workspace on the S&C Automation Customer Support Portal. The next step is to download and save your License Activation file: ActivationFile.xml, as directed in the Installing a License Activation File section below. You will receive an e-mail notification that your Activation File is ready, then you login to your S&C Automation Customer Support Portal account and follow the steps on page 8. After you have installed your IntelliRupter, 6800, or IntelliNode software version 3.5.x or above, and saved your License Activation file, you can then use IntelliLink Remote with those products. Using IntelliLink Remote Connecting to an IntelliRupter PulseCloser When you connect to an IntelliRupter with the WiFi link, the IntelliRupter does not function as a DNP network entry point. You can configure that IntelliRupter, but you cannot use IntelliLink Remote to connect to other IntelliRupters or S&C controls. With an all IntelliRupter system, your computer will be connected to a gateway or headend radio for IntelliLink Remote access to the DNP network. See Figure 8. Then you can connect to a specific IntelliRupter, or other S&C control, by entering its DNP address. IntelliRupter PulseCloser & SpeedNet Radio S&C M Series & SpeedNet Radio IntelliCap 2000 & SpeedNet Radio S&C 6800 Series & SpeedNet Radio SpeedNet/DNP Computer DNP over UDP/IP, TCP/IP, or Serial DNP Entry Point DNP SpeedNet Headend Radio or direct DNP connection Figure 8. Connected to a DNP entry point or to the headend radio. Serial Connection to a 6800 Series Control S&C IntelliLink Remote can be used with a variety of S&C controls. Figure 9 on page 11 shows a computer connected to the SCADA Communication Port of a 6800 Series Automatic Switch Control. An S&C Serial to SCADA Port cable is required, Catalog Number 07-001355-01. The serial link to the SCADA Port can also be sent over a fiber-optic transceiver, point-to-point radio, or modem. Your computer must have a DNP address that is registered with the S&C controls it will contact through IntelliLink Remote. The 6800 Series Automatic Switch Control is the DNP router, sending messages through its other SCADA port to its DNP radio, which communicates to the other S&C controls. With this setup, you can configure and troubleshoot all your DNP controls, by connecting to one control. You do not affect this control s participation in IntelliTeam and its team does not go Out-of-READY. 10 S&C Instruction Sheet 1032-500

Connected to the SCADA communication port of a 6800 Series Automatic Switch Control. NOTICE If you connect your computer to a radio in a switch control or the headend radio and disconnect the control or SCADA system, the team or SCADA system normally connected to that radio will not be able to perform its normal function. The team will go Out-of- READY, or the SCADA system will not be able to communicate. S&C recommends that you connect your computer to a separate dedicated radio. With UtiliNet radios, the DNP address of this radio must be listed in the Frame Recognition DCW of each radio you will communicate with. For S&C SpeedNet radios the DNP and IP address of the dedicated radio must be listed in the routing table. Connecting to a DNP Network Entry Point Figure 8 on page 10 shows a computer connected via Ethernet UDP/IP, Ethernet TCP/ IP, or a Serial connection through a DNP network entry point to the headend radio. The DNP network entry point can be a Device Terminal Server, a DNP Proxy Server, or the computer can also be directly connected to a dedicated radio. You can configure and troubleshoot an entire network through a DNP radio. When a DNP master station is also accessing information from the S&C control equipment, the communication link must be capable of properly routing both DNP message streams. Please contact your local S&C Sales Office for information about applications that involve more complex communication systems. S&C Instruction Sheet 1032-500 11
Using IntelliLink Remote Connecting Via DNP Without IntelliRupter Software IntelliLink Remote allows you to connect locally to a device that uses DNP3 Protocol, and remotely access another control by calling its DNP address. You can then change set points, monitor real-time data, view event logs, and generate reports as if you were connected directly to the faceplate of that control. Step 1 Connect your computer to the device that is your entry point to the DNP network. S&C Automation Device Use the SCADA Port (Port A) on the control. You will need a DB9 to 6-pin IDC cable, S&C Catalog Number 007-001355-01. Headend DNP Radio Use the appropriate cable. Remote Terminal Server Configure your computer to communicate with the server. Step 2 Start IntelliLink, if it is not already running. IntelliLink will attempt to connect using the communication parameters that it saved the last time it connected. If you want to change to a different DNP address, select Cancel, and change parameters. Figure 10. Communication dialog box for IntelliLink 5 and below. If you have a Universal Interface Module installed, this dialog box will look different. Step 3 From IntelliLink, select Tools > Options. See Figure 10 for IntelliLink 5 and below, or Figure 11 on page 13 for IntelliLink 6. Step 4 In the Communications tab of the Options dialog box, select DNP as the Protocol. Step 5 Set the Connection type. If you are connecting directly to a 6800 Series Control or to a DNP radio, select Serial. Configuring IntelliLink Remote Setting Screen Refresh Options NOTICE The default refresh rate of 1000 ms is intended for use with local connections where the channel bandwidth is dedicated to the connection. When connecting over a newtwork it is recommended that the manual refresh be used or the refresh rate extended to avoid putting excessive strain on the network. IntelliLink Remote offers several options for refreshing data: From IntelliLink, select Tools > Options. Click the Screen Refresh tab of the Options dialog box. See Figure 12 and Figure 13 on page 16. The parameters on these screens include: Fill On Open When checked or Yes, all the data on a screen is requested whenever a new screen is called up. Refresh Mode On Start Up ( Refresh Mode for software 3.5.x and higher) By selecting Once, the data on a screen is requested only when a new screen is called up. By selecting Auto, the screen is updated after the interval specified in Delay between consecutive screen refreshes. You can also toggle between Once and Auto by using the buttons at the bottom of the IntelliLink Remote data screen. Delay between consecutive screen refreshes If Refresh Mode is set to Auto, the data is gathered at this interval. Show Refresh Progress (software versions below 3.5.x) When checked, the status bar at the bottom right of the IntelliLink Remote data screen shows the progress of the Refresh operation.
