The title of my PhD thesis is Micro-machined Silicon Solar Cells with Micro-optic Coupling Features on the Front Surface. I successfully completed the research study and was awarded a Ph.D in December 1998. 1985-1987 Joined Southampton University, UK, in September 1985 for an M.Sc. degree in Electronics (Communications Option). My M.Sc. thesis was on a portable Low Frequency Radio Beacon System suitable for use in the sea during a man overboard situation. I was awarded an MSc in Electronics in October 1987. 1979-1983 In September1979 I joined Kenyatta Univeristy College (then constituent college of Nairobi University) for a B.Ed (Science) degree, majoring in Physics and Maths and graduated with First Class Hons in 1983. Won a Mobil Oil award for being the best Physics student. 1976-1979 Joined Kenya Science Teachers College (KSTC), Nairobi, in May 1976 to train as an S1 science teacher, majoring in Maths and Physics. Achievements: Won prizes for being the top student in Maths/Physics class and I was offered admission at the university of Nairobi to pursue degree programme. 1972-1975 Secondary school education at Sigor secondary school Sat for the EACE examinations in 1975 and passed in Division I Top student in the class throughout the four years. 1

Responsibilities: Class monitor, school prefect, Secretary debating club, chairman science club (Won prizes in national and provincial science competitions), Secretary Christian union, and Editor of school magazine. Represented the school in athletics and games. 1965-1971 Primary School Education Sat for CPE examinations in 1971 and passed Responsibility: Class monitor and prefect PROFESSIONAL TRAINING 2009 Attended a ISO training courses/seminars organised by Moi University in preparation for ISO 9001-2008 Certification of Moi University 2005 Attended a Strategic Planning courses/seminars organised by Moi University. Completed a First Aid course offered by the Red Cross. 1980/81: While at Kenyatta University I updated my knowledge on institutional and financial management. 1978: While at KSTC as a student teacher I underwent training on institutional management and topics covered included students and staff interactions, financial management, resource recycling and environmental conservation, discipline, information management, and delegation of duties. 2

WORK EXPERIENCE June 2012 to date Professor of Physics. 2008 to 2012 Associate professor and Head of department Current Duties and Responsibilities I do conduct research in the fields of electronics, renewable energy, theoretical physics and material science. Current duties include teaching, supervision and examination of both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the department. I have examined a good number of MSc andphd theses. Responsibilities that I hold in the department or school are: (a) Coordinate departmental activities such as course allocation, training, team building, university policy implementation, and assignment of duties to all staff. (b) Chair of departmental meetings, attend senate/college meetings and be a conduit of information between the departmental staff and higher authorities (c) Manage income generating unit in the department (d) Chairman for the Physics department, Graduate Studies Committee (e) Chair departmental appointments committee and curriculum review meetings. (f) Chief Examiner of Physics department. (g) Participate in school board meetings and assist the dean occasionally in the running of the school in an acting capacity. 2012-2015 External examiner of Physics for Kenyatta University (KU) 2011-2014 External examiner of Physics for Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) 2002-2008 Senior lecturer and Head of department of Physics. 1993-2002 Lecturer in the department of Physics. Taught and supervised BSc and MSc/MPhil students in the department 1995-1998: DPhil student but was able to teach and supervise BSc and MSc students taking projects in electronics at the University of Southampton. April 1990 June 1992: Joined KPTC as assistant production manager at the then Gilgil Telecoms Industries (GTI). The job involved the production, testing, installation and commissioning of the Telectron / AT&T telephones, PABXs and transmission equipment. I gained experience in experience in personnel management March 1989-April 1990: Joined the Physics Dept. at Moi University as a tutorial fellow. I taught undergraduate courses in Physics January 1988- March 1989: Taught A-level Physics, electricity and computer science at Moi High School Kabarak. Was in charge of computers. March 1983 August 1985: Taught at Laboret Secondary school and later at Cheptenye high school where I taught A-level Maths and Physics. Was acting deputy head at Laboret school. 3
