SYNOPSIS OF ACHIEVEMENTS Institutional Development Over the last (20) years, I have developed special skills and competences and played a leading role in providing Institutional Development services to NGOs. These services include:- i. A participatory review, analysis and development of appropriate and properly ii. iii. iv. focused mission statements; Facilitating over thirty {30} organizations in development of sound strategies to help them to effectively manage turbulent changes, improve effectiveness and sustainability of their programmes; Ably facilitated various organizations in preparing policy manuals in such areas as personnel and Administration programmes; Facilitated governing boards in acquiring skills for policy review and approval; v. Facilitated many organizations in their restructuring process and in undertaking job analysis in order to prepare job descriptions, job specification, as well as designing appropriate Performance Appraisal Schemes;
5 vi. Assisted DPO s in mainstreaming disability in various development programs in Africa and the MDG s. Research activities undertaken I have been involved in various research activities as follows:- Conducted PGDE research on Headteachers attitudes towards integration of children with disabilities in regular schools. This was done in Embu district, 1986; Conducted Doctoral research for my Dissertation entitled: Opinions of primary school teachers towards inclusive education in Central Kenya (2008); Published four articles on: (A) The state of human rights of persons with visual impairment Disability Studies Quarterly (DSQ) 2012 Vol. 33, No. 2 (B) Past and present perceptions towards disability: A historical perspective Disability Studies Quarterly (DSQ) 2012 Vol. 32, No. 2; (C) Literacy of the Blind in Kenya World Blind Magazine published by the World Blind Union; and (D) Disabled But not Unable United Nation Centre for Human settlements, 1998, Vol. 4, No. 4; Participated in the National task force appointed by the PS, ministry of education, to appraise the current status of special needs education in Kenya (2003); 2006; Participated as a team leader in the Disability Human Rights research in Kenya, Conducted various research and evaluation exercises in special schools for curriculum development purposes between 1982 and 1986 Conferences and workshops attended I have attended and made presentations at many National and international conferences and workshops which include but are not limited to the following:- World Blind Union General assemblies and conferences after every four years since 1984; African Union of the Blind seminars, workshops, general assemblies and conferences, in my capacity as secretary general and executive director of this organization from 1987 to 1997; African Forum for organizations of the visually impaired Nairobi, ( May 2007);
