Course Summary This course is designed to improve the pediatric dentist s ability to manage pediatric and adolescent medical emergencies that may occur in the dental office. The focus will be on practical, hands-on procedures needed in the early evaluation and management period. The application of this information will be practiced in simulated emergency scenarios. We are also offering a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Renewal course. Current PALS certification is required. Objectives At the conclusion of the course the clinician should be able to: a. Prepare his/her staff to handle medical emergencies b. Prevent many medical emergencies from occurring in the office c. Systematically assess acute medical problems which may arise d. Be familiar with the most current techniques used to handle the initial management of medical emergencies Pre-Studying This is an intense course requiring advance study. The textbook for the course is the 6 th Edition Handbook of Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office by Stanley Malamed. Critical Concepts will send PALS course study material to you prior to the course. Continuing Education Credit Attendees of the Pediatric Emergencies in the Dental Office (PEDO) course are eligible for 14 (Dentist) and 10 (Auxiliary) hours of CE. The Georgia Academy of Pediatric Dentistry will issue continuing education credit as a component of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (an ADA CERP provider). Attendees of the PALS Renewal course are eligible for 8 hours of CE plus a two-year PALS card. Deadline for early registration is September 23, 2009. Space is limited to 120 participants for the PEDO course and is directed primarily toward pediatric dentists. Please note that space may fill up prior to the early cut off date. Space is limited to 150 auxiliaries for the lecture portion of the program only. Cancellations/Refunds Full refunds for registration minus the $50 processing fee will be provided only if written notice of cancellation is received by September 23, 2009.
