2 ACLS HOW TO GET READY The ACLS Provider and Recertification Courses are designed to teach the lifesaving skills required to be both a team member and a team leader in either an in-hospital or outof-hospital setting. Because the ACLS course covers extensive material in a short time you will need to be prepared for the course before hand. Numerous heroic attempts by some otherwise very intelligent people have proven that you simply cannot cram for an ACLS course. PRECOURSE REQUIREMENTS You should prepare for the course by doing the following: 1) Complete the precourse checklist that came with your ACLS Provider Manual. 2) Complete the pre-test found at and enter the code: COMPRESSION. Bring a copy of the pre-test to class required. 3) Review, understand, and complete the ECG and Pharmacology precourse assessment tests on You will not be taught how to read or interpret ECG s in the course, nor will you be taught details about ACLS pharmacology. 4) In your ACLS Provider Manual, pay particular attention to the Part 5 of the ACLS Cases in the manual. These cases are designed to review the knowledge and skills that you need to successfully participate in the course events and pass the Megacode. 5) Review and understand the information for BLS for healthcare provider. You will be tested on adult 1-resuer and AED skills. COURSE OBJECTIVES After taking this course, participants should be able to: 1) Recognize strategies for preventing cardiopulmonary arrest in adults. 2) Recognize the adult at risk of cardiopulmonary arrest. 3) Obtain the cognitive and psychomotor skills necessary for resuscitating and stabilizing the adult victim of cardiopulmonary arrest ACLS COURSE DATES January 20, Recert February 17 & 18, Provider April 14, Recert April 29 & 30, Provider September 16, Recert September 29 & 30, Provider October 13, Recert COURSES START AT 8 A.M.

You will be tested on child 1-resuer and AED skills. COURSE OBJECTIVES After taking this course, participants should be able to: 1) Recognize strategies for preventing cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children. 2) Recognize the infant or child at risk of cardiopulmonary arrest. 3) Obtain the cognitive and psychomotor skills necessary for resuscitating and stabilizing the infant or child victim of cardiopulmonary arrest using the Evaluate, Identify, and Intervene approach PALS COURSE DATES February 4, Recert March 3 & 4, Provider September 2, Recert October 28 & 29, Provider COURSES START AT 8 A.M.
4 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Participants should be physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, or other allied health personnel whose occupation demands proficiency in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Participants must submit a copy of a current BLS Healthcare Provider card, front and back. Recertifying candidates should also submit a copy of their current ACLS and/or PALS card. No telephone registrations will be accepted. Places in the course will be assigned as completed registrations are received. Any registration that does not include appropriate documentation and/or fees will be returned. Acceptance into the course will be confirmed via telephone or mail. Upon notification of acceptance into the course, pre-course materials must be picked up in the Education Department Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Pre-course materials will not be mailed out. COURSE FEE Employees FREE EMS $100 Others $140 BOOK FEE $40 Providers Manual (Required) CANCELLATIONS Cancellations must be in writing, up to 14 days prior to the course, to receive a full refund minus a $30 non-refundable processing fee. No refunds will be made after that time. Please note: All decisions regarding admission and course operation are made according to the guidelines set down by the American Heart Association as interpreted by the Course Directors.
