The MPPA educates individuals t becme public and nnprfit sectr leaders. The prgram integrates theretical learning with multiple pprtunities fr practical applicatin. The MPPA cre curriculum is designed t prvide students with a strng analytical fundatin, applicable t a wide variety f plicy issues. The Master f Public Health cncentratin in Health Plicy and Management (HPM) prepares public health prfessinals fr managerial and administrative psitins in health rganizatins and institutins (bth vluntary and private), and in planning and regulatry bdies f federal, state, and lcal health agencies. The HPM area develps and uses theries and mdels based in the scial and behaviral sciences, such as rganizatinal thery, ecnmic thery. decisin thery, and mtivatin thery t understand the health care system; identify and analyze its strengths and weaknesses, and design, implement, evaluate and imprve prgrams. Health issues are an area f pririty within the public arena. One f the primary ways in which health issues are dealt with is thrugh public plicy. Appraches t addressing issues range frm gvernment cntracting fr services t setting regulatins and rules that prmte ppulatin-level health. Students wh pursue a dual MPH/MPPA degree will acquire the skills needed t cnduct effective health plicy analysis, understand rganizatinal prcesses within the health dmain, develp plicy-based appraches t address issues f public health imprtance, and translate cmplex public health plicies fr a lay audience.
