THE VICE-CHANCELLOR & PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Professor Ian O Connor Vice Chancellor & President Since opening its doors in 1975, Griffith University has come to be regarded as one of Australia s most innovative tertiary institutions. We are committed to engaging in outstanding scholarship that makes a major contribution to society and to producing groundbreaking research. Students will be provided with an excellent education and the capacity to use knowledge gained to exercise influence and make meaningful lifelong contributions to their communities. In its short history, Griffith University has grown to be a large multi-campus institution with internationally recognised strengths in teaching and research. Our standing as a university of influence was reinforced in 2014 when we were once again listed in the 301-400 band on the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) - the Shanghai Jiao Tong University rankings. We remain one of only two universities in South East Queensland listed on this prestigious ranking, complementing our top 400 position on both the CWTS Leiden rankings and the QS World University Rankings. Griffith University now offers more than 300 degrees and is home to more than 46,000 students from 131 countries. We are Australia s ninth largest university. Ideally positioned in the fastest growing region in Australia, the University will continue to build on its established reputation for responding creatively to local, national and global change by embracing diversity and nurturing innovation. Griffith has partnerships with universities and higher education providers worldwide and works collaboratively to advance its commitment to scholarship, learning, social justice and equity.
