Summary This Job Aid covers: Hollow or Cinder Block Wall Mount Job Aid Hollow or Cinder Block wall Mount Bracket Installing the Mount Bracket into Cinder Block This Job Aid supports the Technician audience. Important: This Job Aid describes the steps for mounting the bracket on a hollow or cinder block wall. All other steps for the wall mount are contained in the Panel/Lap Siding Wall Mount Job Aid. Use the same procedure for installing the adjustable stays. Hollow or Cinder Block wall Mount Bracket The procedure for mounting a ViaSat antenna on a hollow or cinder block wall is very similar to mounting on a brick (masonry) wall. The primary difference is the mounting hardware. Important considerations: Use hollow wall toggle anchors with a strength of at least 300 pounds of pullout pressure. To allow for mounting the stays, the mount anchors must be installed at least 28 inches from: o The edge of a door o The edge of a window o The edge of building corner o The top of the wall Position the mount to allow for properly mounted stays on either side of the bracket. Block walls covered with stucco are not an approved surface Mounting Materials for Mount Bracket The Technician must provide the following materials: 6 ¼-inch hollow wall toggle anchors 4 #20, ¼-inch X 3-inch machine screws 4 5/16-inch washers Installing the Mount Bracket into Cinder Block 1. To begin installing a wall mount on a hollow or cinder block wall, locate a block that is at least 28 from the edge of a door or window, the corner of the building or the top of the wall. 2. Then, measure 7 ½ from the edge of the block to find its center. Center the mount bracket over the block center. Mark the top left outside corner hole for the first ½ predrilled hole 3. Center the mount bracket over the block center. Mark the top left outside corner hole for the first ½ pre-drilled hole. 4. Using a ½ concrete drill bit, drill this hole. 2006-2014 ViaSat, Inc. 5. After pre-drilling, insert the hollow wall toggle by holding the flange against the strap. 6. When the flange enters the hollow space, pull the toggle anchor ring so that the flange is flush with the inside of the block s core wall. 7. Slide the plastic cap down the anchor s metal channel until it is flush with the outside of the block s core wall. 2006-2014 ViaSat, Inc. Page 3 of 5
8. Twist the plastic straps until they snap off flush with the outside of the wall. 9. Place the mount bracket on the wall, aligning the top left outside hole with the hole in the wall. Add sealant, and secure with a #20, ¼ x 3 machine screw and a 5/16 washer. Leave this top left outside screw loose enough to level the bracket. 10. Leave this top left outside screw loose enough to level the bracket. Hold the level along the side flange of the bracket, and slide the bracket side to side until the horizontal bubble is centered. When the bracket is level, mark the wall in the remaining three outside holes of the mount bracket. The center holes are not used. 2006-2014 ViaSat, Inc. Page 4 of 5
11. Pre-drill the remaining holes and insert the hollow wall toggles as before. Use 3 more #20, ¼ x 3 machine screws and 5/16 washers and sealant to secure the other corners. 12. Confirm the level, and finish tightening all machine screws, which firmly secures the bracket to the wall. 2006-2014 ViaSat, Inc. Page 5 of 5
