1 REDI-EXIT COMMERCIAL FIRE DOOR AND EXTERIOR DOOR KITS INSTALLATION GUIDELINES Tools Required Tape Measure Hammer Slotted Screw Driver #2 & #3 Philips Screw Driver 3-4 Foot Level 12 Pry Bar Cold Chisel Wood Chisel Electric Drill Drill Bits ¼ & ½ Masonry Drill Bits Hack Saw Caulking Gun Safety Goggles Carpenters Square Metal File (4) 2 Long Drywall Screws (Drywall Frame Only) Krylon Gray Rust Tough Spray Primer or Rustolem Gray Rust Inhibiting Spray Primer 3M Fire Block Sealant #136 (for Fire Doors Installation) Installation NOTE: The secret of a successful Door Installation is making sure the Door Frame is installed correctly!! Correct Door Frame installation means making sure the Door Frame is absolutely plumb, square and level!! If you don t take your time doing this your installation problems will compound. If you install the Door Frame incorrectly the Door will not hang right and will not close properly; there are few adjustments and you may have to start over!!! 80% of the installation job is complete when the Door Frame is installed correctly!! Please prepare the rough opening and carefully install the Door Frame to the manufactures recommended dimensions. Step 1: Rough Opening Preparation Dry Wall (If Masonry skip to Step 2) The rough opening for a 36 Door installed in drywall wall is 38 x 81 for a 6-8 high door and 38 x 85 for a 7 high door. The opening must be plumb, square and level to plus or minus ¼, when measured at the top, middle, and bottom of frame and from right top side to floor and the left top side to floor. Since the Drywall Frame is a slip on style frame the finished wall thickness for a fire rated wall is 4 7/8 + or 1/16 or 4 5/8 + or 1/16 for a non-fire rated wall, these dimensions allow the frame to slip into place without distorting the frame. Go to Step 3: Step 2: Rough Opening Preparation Masonry Wall The rough opening for a 36 Door installed in a masonry wall is 40 x 82 for a 6-8 high Door and 40 x 86 for a 7 high door. The opening must be plumb, square and level to plus or minus ½ when measured at the top, middle, and bottom of frame and + or ¼ from right top side to floor and the left top side to floor. Go to Step: 4

2 Step 3: Door Frame Installation Dry Wall Slip-on (If Masonry Wall Skip to Step 4) Note: If you do not install the Door Frame correctly the Door will not hang properly and the Door will not operate properly, follow the directions carefully. Tips: The Frame must be plumb, square and level to with-in 1/16 of the frame size; a 36 Frame should measure between 35-15/16 to 36-1/16 at the top, middle and bottom after installation. After the frame is fastened into place there is no way to adjust the frame if it is not square, plumb and level. Use the shims supplied to square, plumb, and level the frame before permanently fastening it into position with drywall screws. Dry Wall Frame Installation: A. Assemble one leg (Jamb) of the Frame to the Header B. Insert this assembly into the rough opening. C. Angle 2 nd leg (Jamb) into the rough opening starting at the top of the opening.

3 D. Use wood shims to hold Door Frame into position while the Door Frame is squared, plumbed, and leveled. Shim under legs if necessary to level. (See Tolerances Below Annex A)

5 E. Use anchor adjusting screw to help Square, and Plumb. F. Fasten Door Frame to wall by driving a 2 long Drywall Screw through each side of the Frame into the wall about 1 to 1 ½ from the bottom of the frame. G. Insert Rubber Silencers (Mutes) Step 4: Door Frame Installation Masonry Wall Butt Mount Note: If you do not install the Door Frame correctly the Door will not hang properly and the Door will not operate smoothly, follow our directions carefully. Tips: The frame must be plumb, square and level to with-in 1/16 of the frame size; a 36 frame should measure between 35-15/16 to 36-1/16 at the top middle and bottom after installation. After the Frame is fastened in place there is no way to adjust the frame if it is not square, plumb and level. Use the wood shims supplied to square, plumb, and level the frame before permanently fastening it into position Masonry Wall Frame Installation: A. Assemble one leg (Jamb) of the Frame to the Header. B. Assemble second leg (Jamb) of the Frame to the Header C. Insert the Assembled Frame into the rough opening. D. Insert a Wood Spreader between Jambs in middle and bottom of the Frame to hold frame in place while Frame is Squared, Plumbed and Leveled.

6 E. Use wood shims to square, plumb, and level Door Frame; shim under legs if necessary to level.. (See Tolerances in Annex A) F. Drill holes for Masonry Anchors into masonry wall through the pre-drilled dimpled holes in Door Frame. G. Fasten Door Frame to masonry wall with the (6) Flush Mounted Masonry Screws supplied. H. Insert Rubber Silencers (Mutes) Step 5: Hinge Installation Both the Door and the Door Frame have predrilled and taped holes for hinge mounting. Attach the three Hinges to the Door with the screws supplied. Step 6: Door Installation Attach the Door to the Door Frame. If the Door Frame was installed correctly there should be 1/8 clearance between the Door and the Door Frame. The door should open and close smoothly. If the Door doesn t operate smoothly then the Door Frame is not square, plumb and level. Fix the Door Frame before proceeding. Step 7: Lock Set or Panic Bar with Key Lock Installation Follow the Installation Instructions included with the Lock set or Panic Bar. Step 8: Door Closer Installation Follow the Installation Instructions included with the Door Closer. Select mounting option to best meet your needs. Step 9: Threshold Installation (Exterior Doors Only) Cut Threshold to length and notch to go around Door Frame. Step 10: Door Sweep Installation (Exterior Doors Only) Cut Door Sweep to Door width; mount to the bottom of Door with the screws supplied to cover the gap between Door bottom and Threshold. Step 11: Frame Caulking Caulk around both sides of the Door Frame, use a quality caulk for Exterior Doors and 3M Fire Block #136 for Fire Doors.. Sealant Step 12: Door Primer Touch-up

7 Use either Krylon Gray Rust Tough Spray Primer or Rustolem Gray Rust Inhibiting Spray Primer to touch up any scratches and bare edges caused by the installation and shipping process. Step 13: Door Painting Before the application of a finished coat of paint, Door and Frame surfaces must be dry and free of all dirt, oil and dust. In every case the finish coat must be applied over a primer coating which is intact. All scratches or bare edges should be field primed with the rust inhibiting Paint Primer as per Step 12.. Recommended finish coat materials include Sherwin Williams SWP Alkyd House & Trim Paint or equivalent, Sherwin Williams II Tile Clad Epoxy Paint or Equivalent, or Sherwin Williams Polane Paint or equivalent.
