Copernicus Masters, University Challenge Foresight Crops - Insect swarm prediction modelling Dr. Olurope Ogundipe, University of Nottingham (UK) Insect swarms cause devastation to food and cash crops all across the world, resulting in financial losses, food shortages, and increased food prices. Foresight Crops will utilise predictive analytics algorithms on historical satellite data combined with ground data to model and predict how insect swarms form. Crowd sourced information from farmers and the latest Sentinel-2 and -3 data will be used to provide information, warnings, and advice on active swarms.
Copernicus Masters, University Challenge Foresight Crops - Insect swarm prediction modelling Dr. Olurope Ogundipe, University of Nottingham (UK) Customer Benefits: Financial savings from reduced crop damage Reduced use of pesticides Less helicopter flying time (to locate and spray swarms) Less environmental damage thanks to more targeted use of pesticides More food for local communities
