Winner of : Copernicus Masters MYGEOSS 2nd competition

University Challenge Seeking to bridge the gap from Earth observation research and academia to entrepreneurship, the Copernicus Masters University Challenge was looking for students and research associates to compete for the chance to transform their bright ideas into successful commercial ventures

Copernicus Masters, University Challenge And the winner is.

Copernicus Masters, University Challenge And the winner is..

Copernicus Masters, University Challenge Foresight Crops - Insect swarm prediction modelling Dr. Olurope Ogundipe, University of Nottingham (UK) Insect swarms cause devastation to food and cash crops all across the world, resulting in financial losses, food shortages, and increased food prices. Foresight Crops will utilise predictive analytics algorithms on historical satellite data combined with ground data to model and predict how insect swarms form. Crowd sourced information from farmers and the latest Sentinel-2 and -3 data will be used to provide information, warnings, and advice on active swarms.

Copernicus Masters, University Challenge Foresight Crops - Insect swarm prediction modelling Dr. Olurope Ogundipe, University of Nottingham (UK) Customer Benefits: Financial savings from reduced crop damage Reduced use of pesticides Less helicopter flying time (to locate and spray swarms) Less environmental damage thanks to more targeted use of pesticides More food for local communities

MYGEOSS 2 nd Competition Apps that use openly available or crowd-generated data in different domains addressing citizens needs, including the GEOSS Data-CORE. The focus of this call will be on developing applications of European relevance that will provide users with quantitative or qualitative information on the changing environment.
