1 Environmental and Conservation Sciences Program Course Requirements North Dakota State University, May, 2013 Requirements for M.S. Degree in Environmental and Conservation Sciences Each M.S. student will complete a minimum of 16 didactic course credits plus 1 credit ECS graduate seminar. The didactic credits must include at least 1 ECS core course, 1 ECS track course and BIOC 720-Scientific Integrity. The core course must come from outside of the student s chosen track; i.e., a student in the conservation biology track, must select a core course from either the a) environmental science track or b) the environmental social sciences track. A total of 30 credits are required for a M.S. degree in Environmental and Conservation Sciences. Requirements for Ph.D. Degree in Environmental and Conservation Sciences Each Ph.D. student will complete at least 27 credits of didactic courses plus the ECS graduate seminar for 1 credit. The didactic courses will include: 3 core courses (9 credits), a minimum of 15 credits from a chosen track, and 3 credits of electives from the other track or other NDSU courses numbered or The 15 track credits must be from at least 2 course categories. Two of the three core course must come from outside of the student s chosen track; i.e., for a student in the conservation biology track, two of the three core courses from either the a) environmental science track or b) the environmental social sciences track. Of the 27 didactic courses, a total of 15 credits must be at the 700 level. BIOC 720: Scientific Integrity: 1 credit, A total of 90 credits are required. For students entering the program with a Master s Degree or previous graduate coursework, up to 12 credits of previous graduate work can transfer and be counted toward the 27 credits. Such transferred credits must be - approved by the student s advisory committee, the program director and the NDSU registrar. The student must earn no fewer than 60 graduate credits at NDSU. Of these, no fewer than 15 credits must be at the 700 level ( & 791). CORE COURSES Masters Students must select one core course which cannot come from the list of core courses within his/her own track. Ph.D. students must take three core courses, two of which cannot come from the list of core courses within his/her own track.
