Doino became the ninth coach of the men s basketball program since it began NCAA play in 1976. He took over a program that has a history of success, including four NCAA Tournament appearances and five conference championships. During his seven seasons as an assistant at fellow USA South Conference foe N.C. Wesleyan, Doino helped guide the Battling Bishops to a 106-79 record with one NCAA Tournament appearance, one USA South Conference Tournament championship and two conference regular season titles. He also helped coach two USA South Players of the Year and two National Basketball Coaches Association All-Americans. At N.C. Wesleyan, Doino was responsible for recruiting, scouting, directing strength and conditioning and monitoring the academic progress of men s basketball team. Prior to working at N.C. Wesleyan, Doino was an assistant coach at Virginia Wesleyan from 2005 through 2007, where he helped coach the Marlins to the 2006 NCAA Division III national championship. A year later, he helped Virginia Wesleyan return to the championship game, where the Marlins finished as the 2007 national runner-up. Doino also served as a student-assistant at Virginia Wesleyan during the 2004-2005 season. A native of Bronx, New York, Doino is a 2005 graduate of Virginia Wesleyan with a degree in communication and was a four-year starter for the men s basketball program. THE GAME Averett University men s basketball travels to face Division II University of Virginia at Wise on Thursday. The Cougars will look to rebound from an offnight when they lost 77-60 at home to Lynchburg College on Monday. UVA- Wise has lost two in a row after falling 84-79 at home to Glenville State College. The Cavs most recently had a 111-74 exhibition loss at Division I High Point University on Sunday. THE SERIES Averett is 2-4 all-time against UVA-Wise, but the two haven t met since 1998 when UVA-Wise was formerly known as Clinch Valley. NOTABLE Averett s Bradley Robinson moved into seventh place on the Cougars all-time scoring list on Monday night. With his eight points, Robinson moved past recent Averett Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Antonio Seay. Robinson is now 75 points away from reaching sixth on the scoring list. Jones, who now has 543 boards for his career, moved into sixth place on the program s all-time rebounding list on Monday, passing Kenny Joyce. ROAD WARRIORS Eight of Averett s first 10 games of 2015-16 have been road games. So far, the Cougars have gone 6-1 away from home, either on an opponent s court or a neutral court. The only loss came at No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan College. FAMILY TIES Averett senior Davis Absher will see a familiar face on the opposing bench against UVA-Wise. Absher s older brother Drew is an assistant coach at UVA- Wise.
