1.- THE ATMOSPHERE. Planet Earth is surrounded by a layer of gases called atmosphere. The most important gases are nitrogen and oxygen. The atmosphere is responsible for the temperature in our planet. The atmosphere has got five layers. Their names are: 1. Troposphere is the closest to the Earth. Humans live here. Aeroplanes fly here too. Weather conditions occur: snow and rain. 2. Stratosphere is between the troposphere and the mesosphere. It has got the ozone layer. 3. Mesosphere. Hot air balloons fly here. Temperatures are cold 4. Thermosphere. Satellites fly here. Temperatures are high. 5. Exosphere. There is very thin air. The pressure is low. Air is light at the top and heavy at the bottom.

2.- WEATHER AND CLIMATE. Weather is the situation of the atmosphere during a short period in a small surface of the Earth. It is very irregular and it changes a lot. The weather can be sunny, foggy, rainy, stormy The climate is the situation of the atmosphere during a long period of time and a big surface. The climate can be Polar, Mediterranean, Oceanic 3.- THE ELEMENTS OF THE CLIMATE. The climate has got some element. We can measure these element. 1. Temperature. 2. Rainfall. 3. Pressure. 4. wind. Temperature is the heat in the atmosphere. We measure it with a thermometer in Celsius degrees. The temperature of a zone changes with the latitude, altitude and distance to the sea. Rainfall or precipitation is the water that falls from the clouds. It can be solid or liquid. The form of precipitation can be rain, snow, hail or sleet. According to temperatures, the Earth is divided in 5 zones: One hot zone, located between the Tropics. Two temperate zones, located between the poles and the tropics. Two cold zones, located in the Arctic Pole and Antarctic Pole. We measure precipitation with a pluviometer or a rain gauge. We express precipitation in millimeters or liters per square meter..

It is the force of air on a particular point. It depends on some factors: 1.- Altitude: low zones have more pressure than high zones. 2.- Temperature: cold air is heavier than hot air. Anticyclones or high pressure zones have stable weather. Depressions or low pressure zones have unstable weather. We measure pressure with a barometre. We express it in milibars. Wind is air in movement. It depends on two factors: speed and direction. There are different types of wind: 1.- Seasonal winds. 2.- Constant winds. 3.- Daily winds. We measure the speed of the wind with an anemometer. We express wind in kilometers per hour or meters per second.

4.- THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT The natural environment is the place where animals and plants live. it also includes physical elements such as the climate, water, soil and relief. In conclusion, the natural environment is a combination of physical elements and living organisms. True or false.. a) Temperature is the heat of the relief. b) The natural environment is the place where animals and plants live....c) Daily winds are one of the different types of wind...d) Rainfall or precipitation is the snow that falls from the clouds. e) Low zones have more pressure than high zones.. f) The weather is the situation of the atmosphere during a long period of time...
