It expresses the vibrant spirit and nature of her origins and background. With a degree in art from Russia and currently pursuing a Degree in Art in the United States, Svetlana combines her skills in photography and graphic design to produce exceedingly evocative art. In a fast-paced streaming life, when we do not have enough time to express ourselves through art, Svetlana has evolved her preferences and has begun to use mixed media instead of oil. A combination of watercolor and ink is one of her recent favorite techniques as well as acrylic painting. When she comes up with an idea, she sets the world aside and simply lives in the moment as she creates the image in her head and puts it all together on a canvas. She works with a variety of materials and colors and chases color affiliations with passion as she perceives the image so clearly, with all the colors and details, before she commits it to the canvas or paper. Medha Joshi On my walks I take in subtle shades of spring, lush greenery of summer, as well as the vibrancy of fall. I observe shapes and colors and photograph them for my art space. In the Northeast, I was taken in by the distinct look of the four seasons. Now living in the Northwest, the majestic evergreens, mountainous terrain and the Pacific inspire me to explore new themes. Art Sparks, a group of talented and multidiscipline artists started me on my art journey. I enjoy the intricacy of Zentangle and apply it in my mixed media projects. Vibrant and willful alcohol inks make it a challenging but an interesting medium to work with on tiles and yupo paper. Initially I created greeting cards, then paintings and now coasters and recycled bookmarks. It has been fun coming up with new ideas. My art-minded friends encourage and join me in creating and enjoying art. Website: http://villagegalleryarts.org/med ha.joshi/

Instructor email: debbieteeter@gmail.com About the Artist: I'm a native of the south side of Chicago, Illinois and earned a BFA and MA in Art Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Certificate in Commercial Design from the University of California, San Diego. I have been a licensed art educator in Illinois and California, as well as Oregon. Since moving to Portland in the late 1980s, I have taught high school art classes in the Forest Grove and Beaverton School Districts, and art instruction methods to prospective elementary educators at the University of Portland. I have supervised student teachers at the University of Portland and Portland State University, as well as mentoring them in my classroom. I consider myself a life -long learner, attending conferences and taking numerous classes and workshops beyond my master's degree. These have served to expand my instructional repertoire. At the high school level, I have taught sequential general art classes (Art I, II, III, etc.) which featured a variety of media, as well as focused classes in painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, darkroom photography, mixed media and crafts, often working with multiple levels of students in the same classroom. While most of my career has been devoted to working with high school students, I have also worked with younger students in camp and summer program settings. I have found that some of the activities I have introduced to teenagers adapt well to younger students, and vice versa. Since I find myself more skilled than creative, I continually aim to poke that right side of my brain and bring more play into my work; this is reflected in my work with students, as well. I am very excited to say that over half of our gallery s members (52%) have a page in the Village Gallery s Artist Bio Book! It has been my goal for the past several months and our artists have stepped up! Thanks to all who have chosen to participate! Having said that, it s never too late to join in. We can help promote your art! If you would like to join in please submit your information. I am challenging VGA members to join those who are already represented in Village Gallery of Art s Artist Bio Book, especially our Board members! It s easy to do. If I can do it, you can too! All you need to do is send - A head shot, An artist bio and 3 jpegs of your artwork Artists Bio Book to Sharon Dunham at dunhamsw@frontier.com. I will create a page for you which will help market both you and your work. In addition, with a $2 contribution, you can place your business cards in the holder by the front desk. The fee helps to defray the cost of the business card holder. I am including a sample artist bio page for you to reference.
