Project Information Title: Project Number: Project Type: Year: 2007 Status: Marketing Text: Early Childhood and Primary Education for Peace (ECPEFP) LLP-LdV-TOI-2007-TR-055 Transfer of Innovation granted TR-Turkey The project tackles the issue of violence and would like to implement a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence, as stated by UNESCO in its manifesto declaring 2001-2010 as the decade for Peace and Non-Violence. The project aims to address this issue according to a preventive perspective and will both develop and introduce a pilot anti-violence training programme, directed particularly at the teachers and trainers of young people from 0-18 years old. The training programme will comprise three modules (combating school violence, Social Strategies Cope with School Violence, and Individual Strategic for Teachers in Peace Education), which has been done by 3 partner countries. The pilot course along with a pedagogic-didactic support mechanism will be tested by a pilot group comprising of 1 tutor and 2 trainees. Through improving the skills and abilities of educators and through new approaches to teaching and learning skills on Peace Culture, the course expects to further support a culture of Peace in young people. The partnership itself involves Universities promoting teacher training and organisations responsible for the training of trainers, both able to implement the pilot course beyond the lifetime of the project. Project dissemination will include distribution of a CD-Rom containing the eventual pilot course to existing partner networks of training and teacher training institutions, development of a dedicated project website, and the publication of associated conference documentation. All products will be made available in English, Turkish, German, and Spanish. Description: The Early Childhood and Primary Education for Peace Project has been accepted by the Turkish National Agency as a Transfer of Innovation (ToI) project with the project number of the LLP-LdV-TOI-2007-TR-055. The project is started on 01 December 2007. It is finished on 30 November 2009. The Early Childhood and Primary Education for Peace Project CD Course is meant to be a tool for teachers to cope with violence in educational environments. The Early Childhood and Primary Education for Peace Project CD Course has been designed to be used as a Blended Learning as well as a Self-Learning course. 2

Project Information The CD includes theory and specific exercises and tools, aims to improve the behaviour, the pedagogical methodology and the knowledge of teachers to deal with violence in educational organizations and therefore to promote Peace Education trough the training of teachers skills. The target is teachers or trainers of schools or any other educational organization who work with children from 0 to 16 years old. The course is divided in three modules, plus a Final Paper. The modules are: Module I: Individual Strategies for Teachers in Peace Education Module II: Social Strategies to Cope with Violence in Educational Environments Module III: Selected Approaches to Violence in Educational Environments The organization of the modules is meant to go over the educational organization violence, starting from your own person. The Module I proposes inner works and trains personal strategies to cope with the subject. As a second step, Module II gives ideas and methods which are meant to be applied in the educational environment as an area defined by social and group facts. The Final Paper is included at the end of this module. The Module II is focused on the educational organization and on the intervention of the teacher with the students, and that is what the Final Paper is about. The third and the last step of the course, showed by the Module III, provides a deeper knowledge about violence in educational organizations designed to complete and improve the empirical approaches of the first two modules. Each module includes two Assessments: one at the beginning (Initial Self Assessment) and one at the end of the module (Final self Assessment). The Initial self Assessment has two main objectives: it works as a tool to focus the attention of the trainee on the module that he or she is going to study and, on the other hand, it measures and gives to the trainee and idea about the position from where he or she is going to work that module. The Final Self Assessment is meant to evaluate the improvement of the trainee thanks to the study of the module he or she has been going through. The contents of the course of the three Modules are organized as theory, additionalinformation, exercises and tools. Apart from the theory, the other parts are shown, and consist in: link word additional information The contents of the additional information are meant to complete the theory that has been explained above. link word exercise These proposals are designed to be done by the trainee. Each of them has a different objective but in most of the cases the exercises try to promote a self reflection about a subject. link word tool The tools are exercises to be applied in class by the teachers or trainers, with the group of students or children they work with. It is important to clarify that some of the exercises which target is the trainee could be easily modified to be able to be applied as a tool to develop with the group of children. Themes: *** Utilization and distribution of results *** Continuous training 3
