2 was founded in 1592 and is Ireland s oldest university. It is recognised as one of the top 50 in the world.

3 The Irish School of Ecumenics The Irish School of Ecumenics (ISE) is a specialist cross border School within Trinity College. It has sites in Dublin and Belfast.

4 ISE s teaching and research ISE was founded in 1970 and specialises in the study and promotion of dialogue, peace and reconciliation in Ireland and around the world.

5 Teaching in Belfast The course is taught mainly at our site in Belfast as part of the M.Phil. in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation.

6 The M.Phil. Programme in Belfast The course is taught within the M.Phil. in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation, alongside the Master in Reconciliation Studies and a joint-course in both areas.

7 European Credit Transfer System The course is organised in a modular structure in accordance with the European Credit Transfer Scheme (ECTS).

8 Course credit requirements. To complete the course and earn the M.Phil. degree students must pass the assessment requirements in 60 credits of taught modules and a 30 credit dissertation.

11 Research Skills Generic research skills required for graduate work and dissertation writing.

12 Conflict Analysis and Interventions Overview of theories for understanding conflict, and models of intervention including conflict management, conflict resolution and conflict transformation.

13 Optional modules Students select a further 40 ECTS in optional taught modules At least 20 ECTS of optional modules should be from the Master in Conflict Resolution Other optional modules are available from the Master in Reconciliation Studies (Belfast), the M.Phil. in International Peace Studies (Dublin) or the M.Phil. in Intercultural Theology and Interreligious Studies (Dublin)

16 Conflict Transformation Lessons from the Irish experience of conflict transformation, focusing on work in small group situations.

17 Conflict Resolution Lessons from Comparative Peace Processes Lessons in effective conflict resolution from around the world.

18 Social Research for Transformation Research methodology training to undertake and assess qualitative social research on conflict and post-conflict issues.

19 Guided Research Project Research project paper on an agreed topic of student interest written under guided supervision.

20 Dissertation Research dissertation on an agreed topic of personal interest. 15,000-20,000 words.

21 Career development The course equips graduates for work with local and international organisations, and provides transferable skills for a wide variety of careers, including mediation, diplomacy, policy, advocacy, journalism, teaching and Ph.D. research.
