Registration Information Registration fees Registration fees include all general sessions, workshops, continuing education credits, conference materials, and all food and beverage group functions, including breakfasts, breaks, lunches, and three evening receptions. First-come, first-serve priority will be given to registrants and workshop selection. Register early, as space is limited and the conference may sell out months in advance. Conference Information Workshops/Online Materials All general sessions and workshops, including certification classes, are open to registrants. Please note that some certification classes require multiple sessions and are limited in the number of participants. Closing GENERAL SESSION: ThursdaY, JANUARY 27, 2011 Warren Faidley, The Original Storm Chaser Warren Faidley is the original professional storm chaser. Although he was not the first person to pursue storms, he is the first person to do so as a journalist, cinematographer, and photographer - as a full-time occupation. He has received international acclaim and awards for his photography, videography, and cinematography, in addition to his contributions to severe-weather awareness, safety, and education. ABA/TIPS PANEL: Evaluating Coverage for Property Insurance Claims Arising From Multiple Causes of Loss The panel will discuss the myriad of issues that arise in the adjustment of property-insurance claims involving multiple causes of loss. The discussion will focus on identifying and resolving causation problems, in particular those involving concurrent or sequential causes of loss. Relevant case law from the Gulf region will be discussed, with specific focus on the factual underpinnings of these decisions. WIND Golf Tournament Wildcat Golf Club is the site of the 2011 WIND Golf Tournament. 12th Annual WIND Golf Tournament The 2011 WIND Conference Golf Tournament is scheduled for a shotgun start at 11:30 am on Monday, January 24, 2011 at Wildcat Golf Club, which is a 10-minute drive from the Hilton Americas in downtown Houston. Registration Early registration is $110 per person if forms and full payment are received by January 4, 2011. After January 4, 2011, registration will be $140 per person. The fee includes 18 holes of golf, a WIND golf shirt, range balls, lunch before the tournament, a light dinner after the tournament, contests, prizes, and transportation to and from the course. You must indicate that you will be utilizing the bus transportation in advance in order to reserve your seat. Register early, as the tournament typically sells out by December. 2011Workshop Offerings Adjusting Siding, Roofing, and Flooring Claims This workshop will focus on the basics of siding, roofing, and flooring (including carpet, vinyl, laminate, and wood flooring) materials. The instructor will discuss claim challenges affecting adjusters and contractors with regard to these materials, including discontinued stock, matching issues, finding LKQ, delamination, installation issues, durability, repair options, and pricing. Findings have concluded that water damage of certain building materials can be interpreted in relation to time, in order to ultimately determine the length and severity of the damage. This valuable information can be useful when trying to determine how long the damage has occurred for several building materials including gypsum board, ceiling tiles, wall assemblies, and particle board. 2011 Workshop Offerings When Is the Claim Really Over: Statues of Limitation and Supplemental Claims The panel will discuss whether the duty to investigate and pay supplemental claims is limited in time. Are there contractual deadlines in policy conditions for prompt notice, proof of loss, dispute resolution, or replacement cost claims? Are the duties prescribed by Texas Insurance Code Chapter 541, 542 or common law bad faith subject to statutory or contractual time-bar? What are the Florida Statutes on these issues? Developments in Case Law, Policy Language, and the Implications Thereof Although the appraisal clause was created with the goal to allow a less costly alternative to litigation, as well as resolving a claim in its entirety, this is frequently not the case. For the insurer, an appraisal may result in exposure to litigation costs, attorneys fees, and a basis for supporting a subsequent bad-faith claim. For the insured, an appraisal award may be significantly less than expected or lower than the incurred costs for repairs.
