WE WANT YOUR ORGANIZATION TO MARCH WITH US TOWARD A LESS VIOLENT, MORE PEACEFUL CHICAGO! Polar Peace March LEADER PACKET Are you as concerned as we are about the violence that's destroying so many young lives in Chicago? Do you want to do something to make a difference? On Sunday, January 17th you can. We're inviting Chicagoans to join us in honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. s legacy of non-violence in our second annual Polar Peace March. This 1 mile march will benefit the work of UCAN toward a less-violent, more peaceful Chicago. UCAN continues to be on the front lines, helping Chicago children and youth heal from trauma. Last year we raised over $37,000 to help UCAN's violence prevention programming in the underserved neighborhood of North Lawndale 200 Chicago youth ages 10 25 are killed by gunfire each year, with vastly disproportionate numbers of African-American and Hispanic children and teens killed. To date UCAN is working to address Chicago's violence epidemic in a comprehensive way. UCAN treats the complex trauma experienced by Chicago's at-risk young people, while connecting them with caring adult mentors and employment opportunities. All Funds raised through the Polar Peace March will support UCAN's violence prevention programming in the underserved neighborhood of North Lawndale. The event will begin at 4PM in Lincoln Park at St Pauls United Church of Christ which founded UCAN (formerly Uhlich Children s Home) during the Civil War. The event begins with a Martin Luther King Day Celebration, a stirring event of word and music honoring the legacy of Rev. King and UCAN's work for nonviolence and peace in Chicago. Then, we'll take our lights to the street for a 1 mile walk through Lincoln Park. We'll end back at St. Pauls for a cup of hot soup. How can you and your organization participate? Follow the steps on the next page and make a difference in our city. Can you help stop the violence? Yes, you can, if you start the love.
