The faculty have been advised by outside sources, including the Advisory Council, that certifications can help students become more marketable when applying for employment. 6 1.The instructors will modify existing courses to prepare students to pass certification exams. Specifically, CIS 196B (Excel) and CIS 196C (Access) will have content tailored for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certifications included. Additionally, if possible, the MOS certification will be given to the students as part of the course. The first such modified courses would be offered starting in Fall of 215. Number of certifications earned by students before leaving Southern Union. The course syllabi for CIS 196B (Excel) and CIS 196C (Access) were examined to determine whether or not their current content, with slight modifications, would be suitable for training students for their respective Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certifications. Through assessing the possibility of modifying current courses taught, CIS 196B (Excel) and CIS 196C (Access), in order to offer certifications, the conclusion was reached that CIS 196B (Excel) could and would be so modified beginning in the Fall 215 semester. http://www.nwsccmoodledemo.com/unitplanning_su/printplans.php 1/5

At least 75% of students in Computer Science will be able to correctly calculate a network number from a given IP address and subnet mask. Currently, 6% of students can confidently make the required calculation per test scores. 1. The instructors will provide additional instructional time devoted to calculated network numbers and explaining the binary arithmetic behind those calculations. 2.Extra examples will be demonstrated by the instructor in class, and more problems regarding network number calculations will be introduced in the assignments in CIS 199 and CIS 246. The outcome will be measured using free response questions on an in class exam. Students mean score on exams regarding IP addresses and IP address calculations had a mean of 76% between students in CIS 199 and CIS 246. The stated outcome was achieved, so the extra time devoted to lecture and examples regarding IP addresses and IP address calculations will be continued in those courses.
