Dr. Jeffres s the assocate dean for academc affars at the Johns Hopkns Unversty School of Nursng. She joned John Hopkns from Indana Unversty School of Nursng, where she held the poston of assocate dean of undergraduate programs. She s natonally known for her expertse n experental learnng and her nnovatve teachng strateges and delvery of content usng technology and smulatons n nursng educaton. Prevously, Dr. Jeffres served as the project drector for the natonal smulaton study funded by the Natonal League for Nursng and the Laerdal Corporaton from 2003-2006 and s now the project drector for a second NLN and Laerdal grant to develop nne web-based modules for faculty development n smulaton. In addton, she has receved multple awards for teachng excellence, has numerous publcatons n teachng and research, and has receved more than $1.5 mllon n grants, fellowshps and awards. Currently, she s conductng a mult-ste, cardovascular study workng wth renowned researchers, Dr. Mchael Gordon and Dr. Barry Issenberg from The Gordon Center for Research n Medcal Educaton and the Mller School of Medcne at the Unversty of Mam. The research s focused on testng a delberatve practce currculum usng smulatons to teach advanced practce nurses cardovascular assessment, knowledge and sklls. The study wll be conducted at four dfferent schools of nursng across the U.S. to help determne and valdate f the delberatve practce currculum usng the Harvey smulator s an effectve, effcent nterventon to mprove cardovascular bedsde sklls of advanced practce nurses.

Dr. Sparks has ntated ntensve tranng and feedback programs to ensure that the standardzed patent experence matches as closely as possble, the experence medcal students, resdents and practcng physcans wll face durng ther medcal career. Vc s professor and drector of the Center for Human Smulaton at the Unversty of Colorado School of Medcne. After thrteen years n clncal practce at CU as a medcal physcst, he joned the basc scences specalzng n 3D Anatomcal Vsualzaton and collaborated wth Dr. Davd Whtlock to wn the Natonal Lbrary of Medcne s Vsble Human Project. Ths establshed both career and busness opportuntes extendng the utlty of ths data. In 1998, Sptzer formed a medcal educaton company, Touch of Lfe Technologes, that produces the VH Dssector for anatomcal vsualzaton and medcal procedure smulators that provde real experence through vrtual patents. Sesson #3: PDAs/Smart Phones and Medcal Records n Health Care Mary Z. Mays, PhD Brandman Unversty Irvne, Calf. Dr. Mays s the assocate dean of the School of Nursng and Health Professons at Brandman Unversty formerly Chapman Unversty College) and the drector of the Innovaton Insttute for the Health Professons. She s a psychologst and bostatstcan wth 30 years experence n federally funded research and development programs as well as teachng n medcne, nursng, and alled health scences. She has broad experence n the basc scences and appled clncal research and a specal nterest n moble technology and health promoton nterventons. Sesson #4: Trauma and Dsaster Preparedness Charles E. Stewart, MD, PhD, FACEP OU College of Communty Medcne, Dept. of Emergency Medcne Tulsa, Okla. Dr. Stewart s a professor of emergency medcne at the OU School of Communty Medcne and the drector for the Oklahoma Insttute for Dsaster and Emergency Medcne. Dr. Stewart s the author of more than 150 artcles and seven books. He has been wrtng and teachng about explosves and bologcal and chemcal terrorsm for more than 25 years. He has been nvolved n conductng advanced dsaster lfe support classes, whch ntegrate smulaton nto the natonal currculum and utlzes a multdscplnary approach n tranng health care provders. Sesson #5: Debrefng and Guded Reflecton Sharon Decker, RN, PhD, ACNS-BC, ANEF Texas Tech Unversty Health Scences Center Lubbock, Texas Dr. Decker serves as a professor and the drector of clncal smulatons at Texas Tech. Her research and scholarshp s related to how smulaton can be used as an nnovatve teachng learnng strategy to facltate the development of crtcal thnkng sklls and promote clncal competency. Dr. Decker has presented at conferences and provded consultaton for nursng schools through out the Unted States related to the ntegraton of smulaton nto the currculum. She has been the recpent of numerous grants to support her research and s hghly recognzed for her excellence n teachng. Sesson #6: DASH (Debrefng Assessment for Smulaton and Health Care) Danel Raemer, PhD Harvard Medcal School and the Center for Medcal Smulaton Cambrdge, Mass. As the drector of research and development at the Center for Medcal Smulaton, Dr. Raemer has been an expert n teamwork and crss management for the past 15 years. He s also an assocate professor at Harvard Medcal School s Department of Anesthesa. Dr. Raemer s focuses on patent safety and clncan performance n crss stuatons, whle studyng behavors, decson-makng and resource utlzaton durng programmed stuatons.
