Select a state or click the Common Core Standards link. 4 Click materials correlated to this standard. 5 Click the Britannica tab to review Britannica materials including articles, student activities, and Learning Materials. Steps to Creating a Workspace How to Use the Workspace Workspace provides users with a quick and easy way to collect research materials including encyclopedia articles, images, videos, quotations, essays, and Web sites. Whether you are doing a research project or just need quick access to important information, you can log into your Workspace from school, home, or the library. It is also easy to create lesson plans and collaborative learning by sharing workspaces with others. The Workspace is saved on Britannica s servers, so it does not consume your own storage space. 2 Click Create New Workspace. Click Workspace in the Britannica header. Be sure to make note of the user name and password you choose or fill out the box marked E-mail Address to access your login information later. Steps to Saving Materials to Your Workspace 1 3 Enter a user name and password to create your Workspace. Use the Workspace to differentiate instruction in your classroom or library! 1 Click the SAVE button next to or above the desired item. 2 Enter the name of the project or choose from an already created project in the drop-down list, then click Save. How to Tips: Workspace Managing Your Workspace Once you have selected items in your Workspace, you can arrange and manage it in the way you want. Click Add Project to add new projects to your Workspace. View a different project by selecting the project name in the drop-down. Use the Notes column to write in research notes and share information. Each box in the Notes column will hold 250 characters. Opening and Retrieving a Workspace Open an existing Workspace to save more content and retrieve information you have saved. Seeing a Shared Workspace Now that you ve created a Workspace, share it with others or view their Workspace. 1 Click Open My Workspace. 2 Enter a user name and password to access your Workspace. 1 Enter the shared user name. 2 Click See a Shared Workspace. 11
Steps to Downloading Video How to Download Britannica Videos into PowerPoint The need for multimedia materials in the classroom is growing; fortunately, Britannica makes it easy for teachers and students to customize their Microsoft PowerPoint presentations by incorporating Britannica videos. 2 Right-click the Download Video link and select Save Target As (or Save Link As ). Other Video Tips Now that you have downloaded the video to your computer and inserted it into your PowerPoint presentation, Internet access will not be necessary to play the video. 1 Select Windows Media format. Please note that if you need to play the presentation on another computer, you must copy both the PowerPoint presentation and the video file to the other computer. How to Tips: videos Steps to Insert Video 1 2 Open PowerPoint in Microsoft Office, then select the Insert Tab from the top menu. Click Movie and then Movie from File. Locate and select the video you saved. 3 Click When Clicked or Automatically. Managing Your Slide Show Add a title or text to your slide. Then paste the citation on the slide with your video. Once you have arranged your slides, you can play your presentation. Click the Slide Show Tab and then From Beginning to view. 13

How to Differentiate Instruction with Britannica Multiple Reading Levels Available on the Home Page Britannica Learning Zone, for PreK through 2nd grade students The Elementary School level, for Kindergarten through 5th grade reading levels The Middle School level, for 6th through 8th grade reading levels The High School level, appropriate for 9th grade reading levels and above. Each encyclopedia article contains many ways to help differentiate instruction. The Table of Contents provides a visual outline to support a student within an article. With the Quick-Click dictionary, a student can double-click any word and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary will pop up, showing the definition and pronunciation of that word. Students who need support with Spanish-English translation can click the Spanish Translator option, and then mouse over each word to see the direct translation of that word. Research Guidance, Vocabulary Help, and Spanish-Language Support read aloud quick-click dictionary spanish translator The Read Aloud feature will allow students to hear articles read aloud. table of contents 14
How to Tips: differentiated learning Create Targeted Lessons and Activities with Workspace Britannica s Workspace feature makes differentiating instruction easy! Articles, videos, learning materials, and other content can be saved into different groups. For example, you can assign materials from different reading levels for each group and then instruct students to use one group or another. See page 10 for more detailed instructions. Click Add Project to create a new group. Personalized Early Childhood Instruction Each student learns at a different pace. Knowing this, Britannica has made it easy to personalize the Learning Zone for whole class, small group, or individual instruction. Just click Teacher Tools on the Learning Zone home page to create groups (e.g. group A, B, and C) with different activities appropriate for the various levels in your classroom. 15
