THE BUZZ TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS AND WORKING OVERTIME The Charlotte Hornets improved to 5-0 in overtime games this season, taking down Sacramento in double-overtime on 1/25, 129-128. The Hornets have now started the 2015-16 season winning five-straight in overtime games for the first time since the 1996-97 season when the team started and finished a franchisebest 5-0 in extra period contests. Charlotte is tied for the most wins in overtime in the 2015-16 season and is the only team to have won more than three games and still be undefeated in all their overtime games. The team is averaging the second-most points in the NBA in overtime (17.6), only behind the Detroit Pistons (20.3). TRIGGERIN TROY DANIELS Hornets guard Troy Daniels notched a career-best 28 points in the double overtime victory at SAC on 1/25, tying a franchise single-game record with eight three-point field goals made (last time, eight, Ben Gordon vs. Portland 12/3/12). It also marked his career-high (previously, 42 vs. ORL on Dec. 27, 2014). Additionally, he set career-highs for FGM (16), FGA (34), FTM (14) and FTA (15). Walker, DeMarcus Cousins (SAC), Steph Curry (GSW), Jimmy Butler (CHI) and James Harden (HOU) are the only NBA players to score 50-or-more points this season. The feat was accomplished on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and is the highest scoring total ever on the holiday. Since Dec. 1, the Wisconsin product has tallied 12 games with 10-or-more points, doing so in only one contest prior. Kaminsky is averaging 11.4 points on 44.1 percent from the field, 1.3 three-pointers and 5.9 rebounds over the last seven games. BIG-SEASON BATUM In 37 games played, Nicolas Batum is averaging 15.1 points, 6.3 boards and 5.4 assists. THE BUZZ OFFENSIVE IMPROVEMENT The Charlotte Hornets are showing much improvement on the offensive end this season and have had one of the largest offensive efficiency turnarounds in the NBA from 2014-15. This season the Hornets have recorded a 103.2 offensive rating (number of points scored per 100 possessions) and finished the 2014-15 season with an offensive rating of 97.6, seeing an NBA-best improvement of +5.6 in that category. Their offensive rating ranks fourth in the Eastern Conference this season compared to 13th in 2014-15. KEEPING UP WITH KEMBA Since Christmas Day, Hornets point guard Kemba Walker has been averaging 25.4 points per game, which is the fifth best average in the NBA and best in the East since that date. Walker has tallied four of his 30-plus point scoring efforts in that time and has 13 20-plus point performances in his last 17 games. SWARMING TO THE D-LEAGUE On Oct. 27, 2015, the Charlotte Hornets announced they had acquired the rights to own and operate an NBA D-League team. The team also announced it would be located in Greensboro, N.C., and will play its 24 home games at the Pavilion at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, which will be renovated into a basketball fieldhouse, beginning with the 2016-17 season.
