January, 2014 June, 2014 Today global economy and increasingly complex world require organizations, their leaders and their future leaders to develop specific skills to acknowledge, adjust and adapt to this rapidly changing business landscape. The Global Business Leadership Program is designed for business professionals who are, or will be, interacting with other cultures at home or abroad. The goal is to become a more effective leader by learning the do s and don ts of cross culture communication and applying that knowledge to a broad spectrum of business, workplace and community situations. Session One: Cross-Cultural Awareness and Adaptation This session defines and evaluates the elements of cultural differences in a business setting. Topics will include discussion of time, high vs. low context cultures, the role of laws and norms, and the traps language sets for us. Case studies and current events will be used to examine assumptions and how they shape perceptions of the other 96% of the world s inhabitants. Session Two: Communication and Negotiation in a Global Setting This session discusses the many layers of cross-cultural communication with an emphasis on negotiation. Learn how other cultures perceive Americans and how to tailor behavior for best results. Topics covered include point of contact, one-on-one & group interactions, questioning, active listening, getting to know your audience, directivity in a culturally mixed context and different approaches to negotiation. Session Three: Leadership Styles for Global Strategy This session focuses on development of management styles that will transcend borders. Learn the importance of relationship building, roles of status and national culture vs. organizational culture. Case studies and articles will explore the influences of the media on team communication and how social structures determine interaction. These sources will enhance ability to accommodate other cultures while simultaneously strengthening business operations.
Session Four: Solving Problems and Making Decisions Across Cultures This session focuses on how to tactfully solve problems, defuse conflicts and make decisions in a multi-cultural environment. Learn to identify how members of other cultures perceive problems, make decisions and how to get things done in multicultural groups. Session Five: Applied Global Business Ethics This session explores business ethics among industrialized nations and analyzes how they compare with personal beliefs. It also discusses the degree to which moral values can be adapted to a global environment. Case studies and current events are used to compare globalization and cultural imperialism. Session Six: Global Team Building Focus on rewards and performance appraisal methods across cultures and how leadership styles may have to change. Learn the difference in beliefs on personal control as opposed to fate, how to reconcile differences between specific and diffuse cultural traits and motivational strategies that can work for different cultures. Transportation to monthly sessions is the responsibility of the program participant.
