HIGH-BAY / LOW-BAY LIGHTING
NEW ALTERNATIVES TO H.I.D. New from SPI LIGHTING, an exciting addition to our family of fluorescent alternatives to traditional HID high-bay and low-bay lighting. The IPS Series from SPI takes the advantage of fluorescent lighting, adds architectural appeal, and does it in three sizes. Features include instant-on and instant restrike, multiple switching capabilities, versatile mounting, with lumen packages designed to replace 100 watt, 175 watt, 250 watt, and 400 watt Metal Halide fixtures. Combining these benefits and a near 50% energy savings per fixture vs. traditional HID sources, makes IPS the ideal lighting solution for athletic facilities, large retail spaces, multi-purpose facilities, and a wide range of industrial applications.
THE IPS ADVANTAGE OVER HIGH-BAY/LOW-BAY H.I.D. LIGHTING DRAMATIC ENERGY SAVINGS An IPS Series fixture using (8), 40 watt lamps utilizes approximately half of the energy of a 400 watt Metal Halide lamp and ballast combination, while providing greater mean lumen output and higher fixture efficiency. A typical 400 watt Metal Halide lamp and ballast system uses a total of 458 watts, compared to only 232 watts for an IPS system. INSTANT-ON AND INSTANT RESTART CAPABILITY Fluorescent lamps strike immediately, and quickly reach their full lumen output. Standard HID sources require 4 to 6 minutes to reach full output. Pulse-start lamps have shorter warm-up times than standard Metal Halide, but still take several minutes to reach full brightness. HID lamps also may take up to 15 minutes to reach their full output after a power disruption; fluorescent lamps are ready when you need them. The instant restrike of high-intensity fluorescents also eliminates the need for costly auxiliary quartz lamps within a percentage of fixtures used in an installation. Used in conjunction with daylight sensors or occupancy sensors, the energy savings of a high-intensity fluorescent system can be increased greatly beyond its inherent benefits. BETTER QUALITY ILLUMINATION The fluorescent lamps used in the IPS Series feature a CRI of 82, compared to the typical 65 of a Metal Halide lamp, or as low as 20 for High Pressure Sodium. Standard Metal Halide lamps are also well-known for their color shift, a problem not experienced with fluorescents. Fluorescent lamps are also available in a wider range of color temperatures, providing additional design options. Quality of light is especially important in retail settings where good color rendering can attract shoppers and enhance the appearance of merchandise. 4
LOWER RATE OF LUMEN DEPRECIATION Over their 20,000 hour projected life, T-5 biax lamps lose just 5% to 10% of their lumen output, compared to as much as 40% for Metal Halide lamps. This important attribute of fluorescent lamps allows an IPS system to surpass an HID system when Mean Design lumens are compared. BETTER DIMMING AND EMERGENCY OPTIONS IPS fixtures can be dimmed in two ways, either through bi-level switching or with the addition of an optional dimming ballast. Metal Halide lamps dimmed to just 50% of their full output still use 65% of their full output energy. Dimming HID lamps can also result in color shift, further hindering color rendering. Fluorescent systems save equal amounts of energy when their light output is dimmed. Emergency ballasts are also available with IPS, providing a simple alternative to egress lighting applications. LOW-PROFILE DESIGN The IPS Series housing is 6-5/8" in depth on the 16" and 22" diameter fixtures, and 7-7/8" in depth on the 30" diameter fixture. This low profile design and a variety of lens options offer alternatives for nearly any type of space. 5
SPECIFICATION DETAILS CONSTRUCTION - Housings are offered in 16", 22", and 30" diameters, constructed from 20 gauge spun steel. UL Listed for US and Canada, damp location. IPS features a unique air-flo design that cools the interior electrical components and lamps, ensuring long-life and excellent lumen maintenance. Housing finish is Super White (SW) thermoset polyester coat. Consult factory for the availability of additional painted finishes. MOUNTING OPTIONS - IPS offers a variety of mounting options: surface or conduit feed, galvanized steel chain, aircraft cable, stem, or cord and hook. A stainless steel safety cable holds the lens secure, allowing for convenient lamp maintenance. LENSING - Offered with three lens options: clear prismatic, drop dish acrylic refractor, opal acrylic, and impact resistant DR acrylic versions. LAMPING - 16" size - 4F18BX/RS or 2CT36DF 22" size - 4FT36W/RS or 2G11 30" size - 6FT40W/2G11/RS or 8FT40W/2G11/RS BALLASTS - Integral multi-lamp, thermally protected ballasts are standard. All ballasts are electronic, HPF, with 120 volt, 277 volt, or 347 volt versions available. Class A sound rating and low harmonic distortion. Dual switching capabilities are standard, and each ballast is rated for -10 C starting temperature. PHOTOMETRY - Full photometrics reports are available, contact SPI Applications for further information. 7
