2 Introducing induction lighting Induction lamps are one of the newest energy-saving lighting technologies developed in recent years. Induction lighting is based on a technology that is fundamentally different from that of traditional lighting products, such as fluorescent or high-intensity discharge (HID). With no filaments and electrodes to burn out, these unique lamps can last up to 100,000 hours, making them virtually maintenance-free! A Superior Light Source Practically maintenance-free, induction lighting offers many features that make it an attractive light source and is emerging as one of the newest technologies in lighting. With a 100,000 hour rated life, these systems seldom need replacing. Particularly useful in applications where lamp replacement is cumbersome and expensive, as in some outdoor applications and in hard-to-reach areas such as tunnels, airports, public facilities, freezers, and many others. Induction lighting produces high quality light in a variety of color temperatures making it useful in a multitude of applications while still offering improved efficiency. Reliable, Durable and Long-Lasting The induction lamp is durable and light output is not significantly influenced by ambient temperatures. Induction lamps are vibration-resistant because they contain no electrodes that will fail due to shock or vibration. Equivalent Brightness for Less Energy Induction lamps produce more light in the blue portion of the visible light spectrum to which the eye is more sensitive at night. In contrast, HPS is stronger in the yellow range where the ability to define details is lost. The Scotopic/Photopic (S/P) ratio takes this into account to compare the performance of lamp sources. The result is the 80 watt induction lamp has fewer lumens than a 150 watt HPS but offers sufficient lumens for equivalent illumination at night while using 43% less energy. Lighting for Life Because the induction lamp has no filament to burn out, it is rated to operate for 100,000 hours before needing to be replaced. That translates into 25 years before replacement based on 4,000 hours of annual operation.
