1 Nightscape High performance floodlights and spotlights for discharge lamps Nightscape is a range of floodlights and spotlights which offers new possibilities for the architectural illumination of buildings. Wide, medium and narrow beam axially symmetrical and rotationally symmetrical reflectors are available for all wattages. The high IP rating makes them suitable for exterior use and for applications in buildings where dust is a problem. Both sizes of housing take double ended discharge lamps. Concentrating on this type of lamp made it possible to design luminares with a very shallow cross section. When installed horizontally on a façade, the luminaires only have a minimal effect on the overall appearance of the building. Concept: Roland Jéol Design: Roy Fleetwood 48 Nightscape

2 The range of accessories for the Nightscape series includes a particularly strong wall arm. By moving a guiding bar, the direction of the arm can be adjusted 45. Once the required position has been reached, it is fixed by tightening the screw. Nightscape is the result of international cooperation between the lighting consultant Roland Jéol and the architect and industrial designer Roy Fleetwood. 5 Nightscape C 270 C Axially symmetrical reflectors Axially symmetrical reflectors distribute the light in 2 principal planes: Vertical (C0 180) and horizontal (C 270). The Nightscape range includes reflectors which offer narrow, medium or wide beam distribution in the vertical plane. All reflectors have wide beam distribution in the horizontal plane. Example 1: Axially symmetrical wide beam Floodlights are mounted close to the facade. Axially symmetrical wide beam reflectors reach large areas of the facade and create uniform illumination. Example 2: Axially symmetrical narrow and medium beam As the distance from the facade increases, the light distribution needs to be more precisely directed. Axially symmetrical narrow or medium beam reflectors are used to achieve a sufficiently high luminous intensity. Example 3: Axially symmetrical narrow beam Horizontal features on a façade are to be uniformly illuminated. Axially symmetrical narrow beam floodlights produce linear light distribution which can be projected accurately onto a horizontal surface. Example 4: Axially symmetrical narrow beam The floodlights are mounted on a facade in order to provide uniform illumination. Axially symmetrical narrow beam reflectors produce an intensive band of light. The light shines parallel to the facade (wall washing). 52 Nightscape

6 Rotationally symmetrical reflectors The light distribution of rotationally symmetrical reflectors is the same in all planes. Therefore the beam angle in one plane is sufficient to describe the characteristics of a reflector. Example 1: Rotationally symmetrical medium or wide beam Rotationally symmetrical medium or wide beam reflectors are suitable for the uniform illumination of symmetrical surfaces, e.g. circular or square signs. C 270 C Nightvision LS Systemleuchten Nightscape Example 2: Rotationally symmetrical medium or wide beam In situations where vertical surfaces, e.g. banners, along a facade are to be illuminated, rotationally symmetrical medium or wide beam floodlights should be used as they create a uniform light cone. The uniformity can be increased by mounting the floodlight on an arm. Example 3: Rotationally symmetrical narrow beam A facade detail is to be accentuated from a long distance. Rotationally symmetrical narrow beam spotlights are used to project light of high intensity over greater distances. Example 4: Rotationally symmetrical narrow beam The luminaires are to be mounted on a facade to provide accent lighting. Rotationally symmetrical narrow beam reflectors create intensive bands of light along the facade and thus highlight the architectural features. Nightscape 53
