Learn in a stimulating environment in an idyllic location above the Lake of Zurich.

About us The ZHAW The Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) is one of the leading universities of applied sciences in Switzerland. Teaching, research, continuing education, consulting and other services are scientifically based and practice-oriented. The ZHAW comprises eight specialist Schools on three campuses (Wädenswil, Winterthur and Zurich). Over 10,000 students are currently enrolled at the ZHAW. The School of LSFM The School of Life Sciences and Facility Management (LSFM) is located in Wädenswil on the left shore of the Lake of Zurich. Teaching and research take place here in the areas of the environment, food and nutrition, and health and society. Courses include five Bachelor s and two Master s degree programmes and a broad selection of continuing education options. About 1,500 students are currently enrolled in Wädenswil. BSc and MSc programmes and continuing education The Bachelor s programme provides practically oriented knowledge, general education and training in working methods, and leads to a professional qualification. Full-time study normally takes six semesters, and part-time study is possible by arrangement. During your studies you acquire professional, methodological, social and personal competences. The Master s degree programme enables you to specialise more intensively in your chosen direction of study and leads to an additional qualification. The three-semester Master s programme can be studied full- or part-time and leads to the protected and internationally recognised title Master of Science ZFH. At the ZHAW in Wädenswil two Master s programmes are currently offered: Life Sciences (with four specialisations) and Facility Management. Ongoing continuing education and a commitment to keeping one s knowledge up to date are now vital requirements for professional success. At the ZHAW there are customised, practically oriented courses, conferences and continuing education programmes (CAS, DAS, MAS*). These are taught at Wädenswil and at the Zurich Technopark campus (for FM continuing education). Research and development Our institutes carry out application-oriented research and provide services for third parties in partnership with business, authorities, professional associations and other research institutes. Close cooperation with external clients ensures that there is an exchange of knowledge and technology between the university and the world of work. Our equipment and facilities are state-of-the-art: our laboratories, experimental and production facilities enable us to carry out application-oriented research and development projects at a high level of expertise. As a student, you also benefit from these activities. * CAS = Certificate of Advanced Studies DAS = Diploma of Advanced Studies MAS = Master of Advanced Studies. International Widen your personal horizons and increase your international career chances.

exchange and mobility Studying abroad Would you like to do part of your studies abroad? The ZHAW provides this valuable opportunity. An exchange semester, a foreign internship, attendance at a summer school, a field trip or a language course all bring many advantages: you get to know a different culture and language as well as another educational and research system, and gain experience for your professional life. Programme Exchanges via the EU lifelong learning programme Erasmus+ are available in all EU and EFTA countries. Erasmus stands for European Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students, and is a widely used exchange programme offering framework conditions for participating institutions, thanks to bilateral agreements. Stays at a host university may last one or two semesters. A Learning Agreement (LA) for student exchanges, or a Training Agreement (TA) for placements, govern the recognition of academic achievements. In addition, more than 80 countries from all continents participate in the IAESTE exchange programme (International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience). Students can gather valuable experience in the short breaks between the semester and the module exams through an IAESTE internship. www.esn.com / www.iaeste.com In Europe or overseas The ZHAW School of Life Sciences and Facility Management is currently networked with over 70 partner universities in 15 European countries within the framework of the Erasmus programme. The cooperation agreements are constantly being extended: you will find the current list on our website under International. In addition, there are agreements with partner universities overseas. If your university of choice is not among our exchange partners, you can apply to any university in the world as a free mover student, but in this case, you will be required to pay the tuition fees abroad yourself. To compensate for this expense, your tuition fees at the ZHAW are suspended during your time abroad. Dates and recognition Studies at a partner university are possible from the 3 rd semester and last for one or two semesters (3 to 12 months). Please contact your student advisor or the mobility advisor at the International Relations Office (IRO) for information regarding the date and duration of your proposed stay. The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) allows transparent and verifiable recognition of studies abroad. The ECTS points you acquire abroad are credited to your studies at the ZHAW. Preparation and support Networking is an important aspect of preparing for situations involving different cultures. It is important to talk to people who are familiar with the destination you are interested in to ensure that you are well prepared for your stay and to obtain useful information. In tandem meetings at the ZHAW LSFM, two people with different native languages work together to improve their foreign language skills. As part of the Erasmus program, you may be eligible for a grant to cover additional expenses in your destination country. We will be pleased to provide further details. And for more information about international student mobility and helpful tips, see International on www.lsfm.zhaw.ch. Bachelor s degree programmes ZHAW LSFM 17
