Established in 1984 in response to the widespread famine in Africa, Islamic Relief has grown to be a key, well known and respected aid agency in disaster relief and the ongoing development of people in over 25 countries. It specialises in Education & Training, Health and Nutrition, Water & Sanitation, Income Generation, Orphans Support, Emergency Relief and Disaster Preparedness. Islamic Relief is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and is an implementing partner for DFID, ECHO, the World Food Programme and UNHCR. PURPOSE OF DIVISION (IRUK) Islamic Relief UK (IRUK) is a Strategic Business Unit (SBU) that is part of Islamic Relief Worldwide. IRUK s focus is strengthening effective funding, mobilising for change through advocacy and awareness-raising, and strengthening programme development and delivery. IRUK works with various partners and institutions, from governments, non-governmental organisations and local authorities to grassroots communities. PURPOSE OF DEPARTMENT (CORPORATE SERVICES): The Corporate Services Department of IRUK is responsible for the provision of robust support services (namely HR, ICT, finance/accounts, facilities management, supporter relations and procurement) to the SBU so it can deliver its strategy successfully. It is also responsible for continuously monitoring IRUK s performance and developing systems, policies and procedures to ensure it maintains a high level of operational efficiency. JOB PURPOSE: To oversee and manage the complete employee relations function within IRUK, ensuring all relevant activities are legally compliant and within IRW s HR framework. To contribute towards the development and implementation of all systems, policies and procedures relating to HR (in IRUK) in collaboration with IRW s HR Department. To provide the required HR advice and support to all functions and teams within IRUK.

SCOPE AND AUTHORITY Scope of the Role: Reporting to the HR and Corporate Services Lead, the HR Advisor is responsible various HR related projects including the provision of advice on all HR and employment law issues to all IRUK functions, teams and managers from multiple sites across the UK. Key HR system development initiatives will be undertaken after consultation with the HR and Corporate Services Lead, the IRUK Senior Management Team and/or the IRW HR Manager. Responsibility for Resources: Employee records, files and any other HR administration documents HR relevant information systems (HR software) KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES The job holder is accountable for fulfilling his or her roles and responsibilities in line with Islamic values and principles of fairness, humanity, honesty, respect and fair treatment of his/her colleagues and staff. The following are the main responsibilities that the role holder will be accountable for: 1. Management of employee relations issues in IRUK Implement all related employee relations policies and procedures including grievance, disciplinary, redundancy, maternity, paternity, leave, attendance, etc. Ensure all IRUK employee relations practices are legal and in line with relevant IRW policies and procedures. Carryout formal consultation procedures on a variety of issues as required by law. Advise on the resolution of specific disciplinary or grievance cases, which includes acting as arbiter between employees. Act as first point of contact for IR employment lawyers regarding IRUK HR issues. Conduct relevant employee relations training to appropriate stakeholders within IRUK. 2. Development of systems to ensure the provision of an effective HR function in IRUK Provide HR recommendations to influence the unit s strategic planning. Develop systems, policies and procedures that ensure the provision of a comprehensive HR function to the rest of the operation, liaising and consulting with IRUK managers and the IRW Personnel Department accordingly. Coach/train line managers on the implementation of policies relating to employee relations to ensure policy adherence. Reviewing IRUK performance appraisal systems in line with IRW, ensuring all IRUK staff s performance is appraised annually. Contribute to the development of the IR handbook ensuring IRUK HR needs are sufficiently incorporated. Operate the chosen HR IT system for all IRUK employees, ensuring it is maintained accurately and is sufficiently up to date. Provide advice and guidance to the relevant IRW HR teams in the development of wider IR systems, policies and procedures Develop and deliver appropriate HR training to line managers (i.e. sickness, absence performance management, etc) 3

Management of recruitment & HR projects in IRUK: Oversee the entire recruitment process within IRUK, including induction Advise and provide professional support to all managers on best practice regarding recruitment and selection. Advise on best practice regarding job descriptions and person specifications Support the screening of application forms and short listing applicants. Devise, run and evaluate selection processes including interviews, psychometric tests, personality questionnaires and various group activities. Manage and maintain behavioural and technical competency frameworks as well as advise how these competencies should be used in recruitment and selection. Provide accurate advice on issues arising from employment contracts and legislation. Deliver on other HR projects as required 4. Other Provide financial reports/stats to the Executive board on issues such as absence sickness, recruitment etc. Build and sustain external relations and networks at the appropriate level to ensure Islamic Relief is visible and up-to-date. 4
