Built Up Flat Roof Waterproofing Systems The Intelligent Membrane Trade Association gives you Assured Quality Intelligent Membrane Trade Association The IMA was initiated in 1996 by Icopal as a non-profit making organisation to champion the very highest quality standards of flat roof waterproofing in the UK. The association brings together a range of technically advanced high performance roofing products backed by industry-leading guarantees, applied exclusively through a network of approved IMA contractors. Our overall aim is to give Architects, Surveyors and Design & Build professionals the reassurance of knowing that the best products are being installed to the required standards, complying with all relevant Codes of Practice. QUALITY ASSURED Icopal operates a system in accordance with ISO9001, guaranteeing consistently high standards in both products and levels of service. Certificate No. Q05556 ISO 9001 : 2000 Only the best can become IMA Members The Intelligent Membrane Trade Association only accepts expert contractors who can demonstrate excellence in working practice. Even then, all approved contractors must still undertake compulsory training in Health & Safety, risk assessment and workmanship. This tightly controlled membership ensures that the quality chain is maintained from initial roof specification, through materials and workmanship to the finished contract and beyond if necessary. IMA contractors are easily identified on site by their distinctive uniforms and identity badges. Guaranteed Performance All systems in this brochure are covered as standard by comprehensive insurance-backed guarantees covering materials, workmanship, system design, consequential loss and insolvency providing absolute reassurance for specifiers. Formulating your Performance Specification All the diagrams and associated descriptions in this brochure are designed to help you write the correct performance specification to achieve the required waterproofing insurance backed guarantee. To support you in this process an Icopal Technical Representative will be pleased to carry out a survey on existing roofs, including the taking of core samples to determine the existing roof construction and condition. You will then receive a comprehensive written condition report and remedial specification based on the survey s findings. 2 All systems shown in this brochure must be installed by Intelligent Membrane Association (IMA) approved contractors in accordance with relevant Codes of Practice and Icopal s recommended design details.

Profiles High Performance Torch Applied Waterproofing Systems Overview Benefits 1 2 The Anderson Monarflex Profiles System is a range of products designed to save time and money during the installation of new or refurbished flat roofs, while also ensuring exceptional, proven performance. Membranes can be applied with a low flame up to 30% faster than traditional Torch Applied products, while an advanced reinforced composite membrane structure and a unique in-built water vapour release feature help to maintain roof integrity in today s flexible building structures. Description The combination of specially formulated low heat reactive resin blends and grooved technology allows application up to 30% faster than traditional membranes, saving time and labour costs. Striped resinous profiles release water vapour to help eliminate blistering and prolonging roof life. Bonding strength and lap security exceed traditional fully bonded membranes. 3 RANGE OF COLOURS Profiles cap sheets are available in: 1 Brown Mineral 2 Green Mineral 3 Blue/Grey Mineral and White to order The Anderson Monarflex Profiles range comprises polyester reinforced SBS modified membranes with vapour pressure control and patented grooved adhesive technology, insulation boards and vapour control layers. Exceptional tensile strength, puncture resistance and flexibility for long term durability. Low flame application with no bitumen boilers gives safer application. Lower energy costs during application. Versatile system suitable for metal decking, screeded woodwool and concrete substrates primed with Icopal Bituminous Primer. Also suitable for approved grades of plywood and OSB timber decks. 4

Distinctive stripes eliminate blistering Groove technology gives you 100% adhesion up to 30% faster 5m 7.0m 10m Anderson Monarflex Profiles membranes incorporate specially developed low heat reactive resin blends with a patented groove surface pattern. Only a minimal application of heat is required to disperse the plastic film and activate the adhesive properties of the resins. The heat is channelled rapidly along the grooves giving a forward melt effect which allows the membrane to be unrolled and fixed up to 30% faster than conventional Torch Applied membranes. A 100% secure bond is achieved immediately. TRADITIONAL TORCH-ON 30% FASTER APPLICATION GROOVED PROFILES Within the Anderson Monarflex Profiles system, resins are profiled in a distinctive stripe pattern on the underside of the underlay membrane and on the top surface of the vapour control layer. Between the stripes is a quartz sand mixture coating. When the underlay membrane is bonded to the insulation, resin-free channels are formed which conduct water vapour to the outside under its own pressure. This eliminates the danger of vapour-induced blistering that can cause premature failure of the waterproofing in conventional systems. FA S T E R 30% I N S TA L L ATIO N Composite reinforcements give unbeatable strength per unit weight The membranes in the Anderson Monarflex Profiles range offer exceptional performance. Fully isotropic, the membranes have exact uniformity of structure in all directions giving guaranteed dimensional stability. This is combined with the proven properties of polyester and glass reinforcement which adds great strength and high elongation at break. 5

Profiles Solo High Performance Torch Applied Single Layer Refurbishment Membrane System 1 2 3 RANGE OF COLOURS Profiles Solo cap sheets are available in: 1 Brown Mineral 2 Green Mineral 3 Blue/Grey Mineral and White to order Overview Profiles Solo is a single layer membrane that provides a fast and cost effective solution to the problem of upgrading existing flat roofs to increase their working life. A unique in-built water vapour dispersion feature helps to release any moisture trapped within the old structure after refurbishment, eliminating the danger of blistering or seam damage due to vapour pressure. Description Profiles Solo is an advanced SBS modified composite membrane that combines the strength and flexibility of polyester fibres with additional reinforcement to give the guaranteed dimensional stability which is critical in single layer applications. The underside of the membrane has striped vapour dispersion profiles beneath a torch-dispersible film, while the topside is mineral coated. Distinctive Stripes Eliminate Blistering The underside of the Profiles Solo membrane has a distinctive profiled stripe pattern. Between the stripes is a quartz sand mixture coating. When the membrane is applied, resinfree channels are formed which conduct water vapour to the outside under its own pressure. This eliminates the danger of vapour-induced blistering that can cause premature failure of the waterproofing in conventional systems. Benefits Striped resinous profiles release water vapour to help eliminate blistering, allowing renovation of an existing roof at an economical cost. Minimal application of heat disperses the protective film and activates the adhesive properties of the resin to allow fast application. Bond strength and lap security exceed to traditional fully bonded membranes. Exceptional tensile strength, puncture resistance and flexibility for long term durability. Low flame application. Lower energy costs during application. 8

Profiles Solo Application The use of Profiles Solo as a single layer refurbishment solution is recommended for roofs with a relatively even surface. Blisters and wrinkles should be cut away and the surface thoroughly cleaned. The prepared area should be primed using Icopal primer. FREE SITE SURVEYS Members of the Icopal technical team will be pleased to carry out a full inspection of an existing substrate to advise on its suitability for single layer refurbishment. Inspection of the Roof Before single layer refurbishment is specified the roof should be thoroughly inspected. The use of Profiles Solo without total removal of the existing waterproofing is appropriate if: The existing roof construction is sound and not seriously damaged by moisture, heat, etc. Serious damage may call for complete replacement of the underlying structure. The original materials including the roof membrane can be incorporated in the renovation. The Importance of Vapour Dispersal Most old roof structures will have suffered moisture penetration through damage, weathering or cracks. Under a hot sun this moisture can expand in volume by a factor of 1500, producing potentially damaging pressure beneath the waterproofing layer. By specifying Profiles Solo water vapour will be safely released following refurbishment, eliminating the danger of pressure-induced blistering or seal damage. The vapour control layer is still performing adequately. The insulation is still performing to the required standard. Single Layer Refurbishment for Existing Systems 12 Year Pro-Spec Insurance Backed Guarantee This system is recommended to refurbish ageing roofs which have not yet been damaged by water ingress and are structurally sound.
