HOW TO SET UP YOUR OUTLOOK ACCOUNT Outlook 2002 (Office XP) Open Outlook and from the Tools dropdown select E-mail Accounts. Select Add a new e-mail account. Outlook Account Setup Page 3
Click on the Add button. Fill in the following information: Your Name: This is your full name Email Address: this is username@slnysarc.org Income Mail Server: mail.slnysarc.org Outgoing Mail Server: mail.slnysarc.org User Name: username Password: Leave Blank Leave the remember password box unchecked Leave the Logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) box unchecked Click More Settings. Click the Outgoing Server tab. Check the My outgoing server (SMPT) requires authentication box. Enable the Use same settings as my incoming mail server radio button. Click the Advanced Tab. In the Incoming Server (POP3) box put 995. Check the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). Outgoing Server (SMTP): box put 25. Check the Use the following type of encrypted connection. Turn the Server Timeouts to short, 1 minute. This will complete the setup. Outlook Account Setup Page 5
Outlook 2003 (Office 2003) Open Outlook, go to the Tools menu (if you get other pop-up screens when opening Outlook click the cancel button next to them until you can click on the B menu), and click on E-mail Accounts... When the E-mail Accounts window appears, click on the circle next to Add a new e-mail account then click Next. Outlook Account Setup Page 6
Click the circle next to POP 3 and then click Next. Fill in the following information: Your Name: This is your full name Email Address: this is username@slnysarc.org Income Mail Server: mail.slnysarc.org Outgoing Mail Server: mail.slnysarc.org User Name: username Password: Leave Blank Leave the remember password box unchecked Leave the Logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) box unchecked Click More Settings. Click Finish on the window that confirms you have successfully entered all the required information. When you return to the main menu, you may be asked to enter your password, and once you have done so, Outlook will download the e-mail messages from your account. Outlook Account Setup Page 9
Outlook 2007 (Office 2007) Open Outlook 2007 and click Tools in the menu bar, then select Account Settings. In the Account Settings window, from the E-mail tab click on the New button. Outlook Account Setup Page 10
On the bottom of the Add New E-mail Account check the box for Manually configure server setting or additional server types, then click Next >. Make sure that Internet E-mail is selected then click Next >. Outlook Account Setup Page 11
This screen requires you to enter all your e-mail account information. Your Name: The name you want to appear on all e-mails you send out E-mail Address: Your slnysarc.org email address (i.e. jdoe@slnysarc.org) Ensure that the Remember Password box is not checked Incoming Mail server (IMAP): mail.slnysarc.org Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.slnysarc.org User Name: jdoe Password: THIS MUST BE LEFT BLANK Once you have filled out the blanks, click on More Settings... Select the Outgoing Server tab. Select My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server. Select the Advanced tab. For Incoming server (IMAP), enter 995 as the port, and choose SSL encryption. For Outgoing server (SMTP), enter 25 as the port, and choose TLS encryption. Drag the Server Timeouts slider toward Short, setting the value to 1 minute. The Add New E-mail Account window should now be displayed again. Select Next. Fill in the following information: Your Name: This is your full name Email address: this is username@slnysarc.org Account type: this will be Pop3 Income Mail Server: mail.slnysarc.org Outgoing Mail Server: mail.slnysarc.org User name: username Password: Leave Blank Leave the remember password box unchecked Leave the Require logon using secure password authentication (SPA) box unchecked. Click the Outgoing Server tab. Check the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication box. Enable the Use same settings as my incoming mail server radio button. The Incoming Server (POP3) box put 995. Check This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). Outgoing Server (SMTP): box put 25. In the Use the following type of encrypted connection drop down box use TLS. Turn the Server Timeouts to short, 1 minute. Make sure the Leave a copy of messages on the server is unchecked.
