ABOUT NATIONAL UNIVERSITY Founded in 1971, National University is the second-largest private, nonprofit institution of higher learning in California. It was among the first to recognize and focus on the unique needs of nontraditional learners. Its distinctive and intensive one-course-per-month format, multiple locations, and on-campus and online programs enable students to complete graduate and undergraduate degrees in an accelerated time frame while maintaining family and work responsibilities. National University is comprised of the College of Letters and Sciences and five schools: Business and Management; Education; Engineering and Technology; Health and Human Services; and Media and Communication. MISSION National University is dedicated to making lifelong learning opportunities accessible, challenging, and relevant to a diverse student population. National University is the flagship institution of the National University System, which was established in 2001 to meet the emerging demands for education in the 21st century. In addition to National University, the affiliates of the National University System are: John F. Kennedy University; National University International; the Division of Pre-College Programs, consisting of National University Academy and National University Virtual High School; Spectrum Pacific Learning Company LLC; and WestMed College. CONVENIENT LOCATIONS Headquartered in San Diego, National University has 26 campuses in California and one in Nevada. The University also operates four Online Information Centers where prospective students can get information about National University and its various degree, credential, and certificate programs; experience online classes; enroll; and get educational counseling and details about financial aid. The Online Information Centers are conveniently located in Sacramento, Temecula, Palm Desert, and West Covina, California; Summerlin, Nevada; Orlando, Florida; and Lima, Peru. ONE-COURSE-PER- MONTH FORMAT An intensive, one-courseper-month format creates a concentrated, focused approach. Classes are geared to accommodate the busy schedules of students so they can attend classes in the evenings, weekends, or online. The accelerated format enables students to complete 12 courses per year compared to nine courses at traditional institutions. STREAMLINED ADMISSIONS Admission is based on previous academic record, professional experience, motivation, and educational objectives. Technology enables prompt online enrollment and processing of transcripts and records. Admissions advisors provide program-specific counseling and assistance from registration through graduation. Full-time and associate faculty add an important theoretical component to the curriculum, while core and adjunct faculty are parttime professors who work in the fields they teach. EXTENDED LEARNING The Division of Extended Learning offers courses for certificate programs and Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as well as academic credit. certification training, workshops, seminars, and conferences. Offerings may be held at regional centers throughout California, client locations, online, or by realtime web seminars. STUDENT SUPPORT & RESOURCES STUDENT CONCIERGE SERVICES Student Concierge Services is the student s point of contact for all National University questions. Advocates from Student Concierge Services are available from 7 a.m. to midnight Pacific Time, seven days a week, to answer a wide range of student questions, from financial aid and admissions to grades and graduation. Technical assistance for students is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. LIBRARY RESOURCES The National University Library System has more than 338,000 volumes, including one of the largest e-book collections in the United States. The Library provides access to 124 electronic databases, more than 30,000 full text journals, and various services for online users, including Journal Direct, Books Direct, RefDesk e-mail reference, and ereserves. The National University Library, located in San Diego, includes among its facilities the: Curriculum Resource Center, a state-of-the-art classroom supported with K-12 educational curriculum and software resources used in California schools; ONLINE PROGRAMS National University offers more than 60 programs fully online that incorporate the latest advances in technology to provide a dynamic, interactive learning environment. Students have access to quality education via the Internet, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES Students can access their class schedules, grades, and academic and financial aid information via the student web portal. More than 70 student computer labs containing over 3,500 PCs are available at National University labs and the library. Web-based video conferencing is available at all 27 National University locations. ONLINE FEATURES National University offers unparalleled technical support for online students. Knowledgeable help desk support is available via e-mail or phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Faculty members take time to acquaint students with the fundamentals of online learning. FINANCIAL AID & SCHOLARSHIPS National offers comprehensive guidance and assistance for students seeking financial aid. Many students receive partial or full tuition reimbursement from their employer. National University awards tuition scholarships and grants to students who demonstrate exceptional scholastic achievement, to economically disadvantaged students, and to single-parent students with demonstrated financial need. A variety of scholarships, grants, and loans are available, including: Merit Scholarships up to $2,500 for outstanding academic achievement for undergraduate and graduate students. Military Tuition Scholarships up to $2,500 for eligible military personnel including active duty, reservists, national guardsmen/women, their spouses, and dependents. Community College Transfer to Triumph Scholarships for students enrolling in National University from the California Community College System. The Federal Pell Grant, which awards grants ranging from $400 to $5,500. The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), like the Pell, awards grants ranging from $250 to $4,000 on a limited basis to students with an exceptional financial need. Funded on a limited basis, the Federal Perkins Loans offer low interest loans to students who demonstrate exceptional need. Assumption Program of Loans for Education (APLE), whereby the California Student Aid Commission may assume up to $11,000 in loans for students who commit to teaching in designated public schools. The Academic Competitiveness Grant program (ACG), which awards grants ranging from $47 to $2,050 for first- and second-year students who have successfully completed a rigorous secondary school program. The National SMART Grant, which awards grants ranging from $250 to $4,000 for third- and fourth-year PELL eligible students who major in mathematics, science, technology, engineering, or critical foreign languages. State aid in the form of Cal Grant A and B, which awards grants ranging from $100 to $12,944. Federal Stafford Student Loans, which offer students a low fixed interest rate for the life of the loan. Federal Plus Loans for Parents is a loan program to assist parents of undergraduate dependent students with educational costs. Graduate Plus Loan is a government-insured education loan designed for graduate and professional students. Veterans Affairs educational benefits are available to qualifying military personnel.
