2 Master of Business Administration Master of Business Administration The mission of the MBA is to provide educational experiences to prepare our students for life-long learning and professional leadership responsibilities in a dynamic, global environment. The program provides individualized attention through extensive studentfaculty collaboration. Students in the MBA program are expected to develop a core set of competencies including functional business knowledge, leadership and teamwork skills, analytical and critical thinking skills, responsiveness to domestic and global business environments, appreciation for diversity and multiculturalism as well as ethical and legal responsibilities, professional development and communication skills. One Year Program The MBA is offered in an accelerated time frame allowing students to complete the program in one year by attending full-time classes year-round, including summer classes and/or internships. Rolling admission is also offered so that students may begin in fall, spring or summer. Off-campus students in Hickory, NC attend classes part-time year-round with classes two nights a week and generally finish in two years. Students may also attend part-time on campus. Concentrations The MBA program offers concentrations in: Sustainable Business International Business Economics Business Analytics Supply Chain Management Leading and Managing Human Resources Interdisciplinary Business Globally Minded The curriculum has an international focus. All courses are designed to expose students to the global nature of business, preparing them for the dynamic world in which we live. Students are also required to have an international experience prior to graduation, such as study abroad trips, which have included destinations in Europe, South America, Asia and Africa.

4 Financial Aid The college offers assistantships, scholarships, work studies and out-of-state tuition waivers, which are awarded competitively to full-time students. This can help significantly with the cost of graduate school. Small Class High Quality Our commitment is to provide a high-quality program. One of the factors that differentiates the Walker College MBA program from programs at many other universities is our small class size. With a target class size of 20-25, students receive more individual attention in class and individual assistance with career-related issues. All Majors Welcome The MBA program is open to all undergraduate majors who have completed the necessary business prerequisites. The required courses are statistics, financial accounting, economics, corporate finance, marketing and organizational behavior. The college has placed into effect new learning modules, which may fulfill the prerequisite requirements.
5 Graduate Faculty Approximately 50 faculty members in the college hold graduate faculty status and teach in the MBA program. To be eligible for membership, a faculty member must be an active and productive scholar in her or his discipline. Scholarly activity includes the discovery, integration, and/or application of knowledge/skills in one s discipline through research/performance, instruction and professional service. Graduate faculty members must maintain current knowledge, methods and techniques of his or her discipline in order to teach MBA courses. Double Masters Degree MBA candidates may exercise an interest in multiple academic disciplines, and earn two master's degrees while at Appalachian. 50% of credit hours in the lesser program may be double counted, with approval from both program directors and the graduate school. Students have jointly enrolled in the MBA program with the departments of Higher Education, Appropriate Technology, Professional Science, Music, Physics, and Criminal Justice. More programs are possible, allowing students to earn both business and technical training. Professional Development In addition to giving students the technical skills and knowledge to be successful in the business world, the Walker College also provides students the soft skills necessary to be complete professionals. This is achieved through a full-time career counselor, as well as through an executive skills course. Through this course, students develop resumes, improve interview skills, and expand networking skills. In addition, the Walker College offers support to MBA students through abilities and interest analyses, job search strategies, job posting alerts, and mock interview opportunities.

10 Awards and Accolades Princeton Review's Best Business Schools The Princeton Review s guide to business and law schools consistently includes Appalachian s MBA Program in their annual Best Business Schools listing. The Review compiles results of more than 20,000 surveys with students rating their school on several topics and reporting about their personal experiences. CEO Magazine's Global MBA Super Table The MBA Program has also been ranked on the Global MBA Super Table, receiving a Top Tier ranking for North American schools by the International Graduate Forum in The ranking is aimed to truly reflect the qualities and values that students seek in a business school. The research is conducted with past and present students from universities around the world, and it evaluates the quality of both the in-class experience and the teaching faculty as well as other metrics including class size, student work experience, international diversity within the classroom, faculty-to-student ratios and faculty qualifications (both academic and professional).
