Mserver to Ipmail Conversion Instructions The new email server called ipmail is configured to allow only encrypted email sessions. Members of the Laurier community who are currently using unencrypted email on mserver will have to change settings in their email program before they can use ipmail ; in some cases they will have to upgrade their email program. Upgrades for the Netscape, Eudora or ThunderBird are available at the following links: Netscape -- Eudora -- Thunderbird. Please choose your email client from below by Ctrl+click: Outlook 2002 Outlook Express 6 Netscape 7.2 Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0 Eudora 7.1
Outlook 2002 1. Start Outlook, and click on mserver.wlu.ca 2. From the Tools menu, choose Options
3. In the Options window, click on the Mail Setup tab 4. Click E-mail Accounts
5. In E-mail Accounts, choose View or change existing e-mail accounts, then click Next 6. Choose mserver.wlu.ca from the list then click Change
7. Change Incoming mail server and Outgoing mail Server to ipmail.wlu.ca, then click More Settings 8. In the Internet E-mail Settings window, click on the Advanced tab
9. In the Advanced tab, tick This server requires a secure connection (SSL), the Port changes to 993 if you use IMAP, or it changes to or 995 if you use POP, then click OK 10. In the E-mail Accounts window, click Next
11. Click Finish to close E-mail Accounts 12. Click OK to close the Options window
13. Shutdown Outlook 14. Restart Outlook, you will be prompted your password to access your email account Back to Top
Outlook Express 6 1. Start Outlook Express, click mserver.wlu.ca in the Folders list 2. From the Tools menu, choose Accounts
3. In the Internet Accounts window, choose mserver.wlu.ca then click Properties 4. In the General tab, change Mail Account to ipmail.wlu.ca, then click Apply
5. Click on the Servers tab 6. In the Servers tab, change Incoming mail (IMAP) or (POP3) and Outgoing mail (SMTP) to ipmail.wlu.ca, then click Apply
7. Click on the Advanced tab 8. In the Advanced tab, tick on This server requires a secure connection (SSL), the port number changes to 993 if you use IMAP, or it changes to or 995 if you use POP, then click Apply
9. Click OK to close the Properties window 10. Click Close to close the Internet Accounts window
11. You will see the alert like below, please click Yes 12. You will be prompted your password to access your email, type it in and click OK Back to Top
Netscape 7.2 1. Start Netscape, click the envelope icon on left bottom corner to start mail&newsgroups. 2. From the Edit menu, choose Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings.
3. In the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window, click Outgoing Server (SMTP) 4. Change the Server Name to ipmail.wlu.ca, leave all the other options as default, DO NOT click OK
5. In the same window, click Server Settings 6. Change Server Name to ipmail.wlu.ca, and tick Use secure connection (SSL), the Port changes to 993 if you use IMAP, or it changes to or 995 if you use POP, click OK to close the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window
7. Click the Get new messages icon in Netscape 8. You will be asked for your password to access your email, input your password, and start to enjoy Netscape Back to Top
Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0 1. Start Thunderbird application, from the Tools menu, find Account Settings and click on it 2. In the Account Settings windows, choose Server Settings and change Server Name to ipmail.wlu.ca
3. Under Security Settings, choose SSL, you may notice the Port changes to 993 if you use IMAP, or it changes to 995 (SSL) if you use POP 4. In the Account Settings windows, click Outgoing Server (SMTP)
5. Choose the account name with (Default), then click Edit 6. In the SMTP Server window, type ipmail.wlu.ca in Server name, click OK
7. In the Account Settings window, click OK 8. Shut down thunderbird
9. Restart Thunderbird, you will be prompted your password to your email account, then use Thunderbird as usual Back to Top
Eudora 7.1 1. Start Eudora, from the Tools menu, click Options 2. Click on Getting Started, and leave your name in Real name, leave your email address in Email address in format of accountname@wlu.ca, leave your username in User Name, type ipmail.wlu.ca in Mail Server (Incoming), and type in ipmail.wlu.ca in SMTP Server (Outgoing), Do Not click OK
3. Click on Incoming Mail, and verify Server configuration. 4. Click on Sending Mail and verify ipmail.wlu.ca" is SMTP server
5. Click on Checking Mail, verify ipmail.wlu.ca is Mail Server, and from the dropping list under Secure Sockets when Receiving choose Required, STARTTLS, then click OK 6. You shall be prompted your password to access your email. If you did not see this, please shut down Eudora and start it again. Back to Top
