Video Conferencing - Watching electa Live V4 supports many-to-many video broadcasting. Each virtual room is preset with a certain number of video inputs, which allows several attendees to share their web cams at one and the same time. Each attendee in the session can watch one or more of the video streams. The video broadcast is a moderator-enabled option. Only moderators are allowed to broadcast their video camera streams but each participant is allowed to watch any of the broadcasted streams. When someone is broadcasting a stream a small video cam appears next to his/her name in the attendees list. This attendee is broadcasting a video stream. You can watch his video stream by clicking on his video camera image. A video window will be opened. The video window shows the attendee s name, and the stream from his/her video camera. Click on the blue [close] link to stop watching. SAMPLE Video Broadcast You can adjust the video-window size. Right click on it and select the desired sized. There are several predefined window sizes. This option changes your own video-window size. Choosing Original Size will set the original size at which the user broadcasts You can also use the main menu or the drop-down attendee menu for watching a remote video cam. Select an attendee sharing a web cam from the Participants list. Then from the Video main menu item select View Participant s Web Cam option. Another way is to right click on an entry in the participants list and choose View Participant s Web Cam from the dropdown menu. If the selected participant is not sharing a web cam you will get the following message: Video Not Available. This user has not his/her web cam turned on.

The quality of the video stream depends on several things. It depends on the bandwidth at your side as well as on the bandwidth at the broadcasting side. It also depends on the video codec, which is used for encoding the video content. electa Live 4 supports several video codecs for encoding/decoding the video streams. There is one default, preferred codec electa will use for broadcasting if not set to another one. This is the Microsoft Windows Media Video 9 VCM. It is usually installed on most of the computers but it may happen so that it is missing on your computer. If you are trying to watch a video stream and you get a message like Video Codec Failed this means that you don t have that codec installed on your system. This codec is available for download at http://support.e-lecta.com/downloads/thirdparty/wmp6cdcs.exe or at http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/6/1/461e47d9-bff9-4d3f-b97c-93476581f6ef/wmp6cdcs.exe

Video Conferencing Sharing Web Cam This topic applies to users with moderator s privileges. It describes how to share your web cam video stream with the other attendees in the session. To start sharing your video camera you need to be a moderator or be promoted to such by one of the other session moderators. Also the virtual room where the session is held must be preset to support video. There are virtual rooms which support video but there are rooms, which do not support video streaming. Pressing the video button on the main toolbar starts the video session. Before you start sharing your video camera make sure it is properly installed and plugged in as describe in your camera s manual. electa Live V.4 supports almost any kind of video cameras currently available. Once your camera is shared a small red camera image will show in the participant s list next to your name. The other attendees can watch your video by clicking on your red-camera image. While you are sharing your camera you will see a small preview video window with your video stream. Click the [Close] link to stop your video stream or click on the X button to close the video window. The quality of the video stream depends on several things. It depends on the bandwidth at your side as well as on the bandwidth of the user who is watching you. If you are trying to share your video cam and you get a message like Video Codec Failed this means that you don t have that codec installed on your system. This codec is available for download at http://support.e-lecta.com/downloads/thirdparty/wmp6cdcs.exe or at http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/6/1/461e47d9-bff9-4d3f-b97c-93476581f6ef/wmp6cdcs.exe There are several settings for web cam sharing. They are described in the next section Configuring Video

Application Sharing Video Conferencing Configuration This topic applies to users sharing web cams. It describes how to configure your video window size, select a video codec and choose refresh rate. It is not necessary to pre-configure your video settings to start sharing your web cam. electa has default values which provide good performance. Sometimes you may need to change these settings. For example - the default video window size is pre-set to 160 x 120 pixels. You can however enlarge your video window so that others see more detailed picture. Click on the Video main menu item and then select Video Settings sub menu item. The video settings window will appear. Please note that these video settings apply only for sharing (broadcasting) but not for watching video. The Capture Driver field represents the video drivers for each installed camera on your computer. The Video Codec field lists all the video codecs installed on your computer. The default is Microsoft Windows Media Video 9. If this codec is missing the filed may be empty. The Video refresh rate represents how many vide frame will be transferred each second. The Capture Driver determines which video camera to use for broadcasting. If you used to have several video cameras installed then you might need to select the video driver representing your current camera. Use the Capture Driver drop-down list to select the proper one. If you are not sure which driver in the list is your current video driver you can try all of them by choosing them one by one and trying to test the camera with the Preview button. Pressing the preview button will show the video broadcast window in offline mode the way it will appear for the other users in the session. The Video Format field represents the size of the video window. You can choose among several video formats. The smallest in size is 160x120 (default), after that follow 176x144, 320x240, 352x288, and 640x480. Please note that the larger size you choose the more bandwidth is required as well as more system resources. If you are on a slow Internet connection and your attendees are also on a slow connection then choosing a larger widow size might cause picture delays and video frame losses.

The Video Refresh Rate tells electa how many frames to transfer in one second. The default value is 5 frames per second. Choosing a higher value will require more bandwidth both at your site and at the participants computers. The video codec is used for compressing the video stream before sending it to the server. electa allows you to use any of the video codecs installed on your system. This however may cause some problems for the other attendees if they don t have that very video codec installed on their computer. The default video codec electa will try to use is Microsoft Windows Media Video 9 codec. This video codec is usually installed on most of the systems but it may happen that it is missing on your computer. Since this is the default video codec electa will try to find for encoding/decoding video, we strongly recommend that you install this video codec and use it for video broadcasting. This video codec is available for download at: http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/6/1/461e47d9-bff9-4d3f-b97c- 93476581f6ef/wmp6cdcs.exe or http://support.e-lecta.com/downloads/thirdparty/wmp6cdcs.exe Application Sharing There could be video codecs on your computer, which are incompatible with electa. We suggest you use the default video codec Microsoft Windows Media Video 9 unless you have some special reasons not to do so.
